And the nominees are…

First off, let me say Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there, especially to my own and to my father-in-law. I realize more and more every day how fortunate I am to have both of them, so this day is very special to me.
I know it’s been a week since I last made a post but it’s clear you guys get along just fine without me.
As we draw closer to football season, I’ve narrowed the list of nominees for 2008 Journal News Super 11. I’m not going to lie, but this was a lot tougher than I thought it would. When I do the postseason all-star teams every year, it’s usually loaded with seniors and I always think “next year’s talent is going to be thin.” Then I sit down in June and start analyzing rosters and I’m pleasantly surprised by the talent returning. This year is no different. The best part is that it seems pretty spread out, not only by team but by conference and class. That makes my job (the world’s great job, by the way) even better.
Here’s the list I’ve come up with. If there is a glaring omission, please let me know. I’ve broken it down into a few parts. You’ll get it:
2008 Super 11 Nominees

There’s no real criteria for making Super 11. You don’t have to be a senior or playing for a certain number of years. I have two goals when selecting it:
1. Find a balance between what a player has accomplished with the type of impact they’ll have this season. (If I know a QB is going to throw over 1,000 yards — however he hasn’t attempted a pass on varsity, I’d be reluctant to put him on).
2. Find a balance in positions. I’m not going to pick 11 running backs unless I have to. If we had 11 guys going D-1 at a position, I’d bend the rule. But I want linemen and defensive-only players on the list.I’ve made it a point in recent years to be very thorough in selecting this team and I take it very seriously. I’ll be out at events (camps, 7 on 7s) as much as I can to evaluate. This is just a preliminary list and there ARE NO GUARANTEES, whether you made first team last year or not. I’ll go by what I see and hear in the next two months. Now, feel free to begin tearing apart my list.

Jeremy burnett from harrison is gonna have a huge year now that he knows the offense, by the end of the year he will be a strong contender. Hes a better pure football player than even segal and dellicarpini. Tremayne williams should be a strong contender. James brundage probably shouldnt be a heavy favorite, but a strong contender. Wow, nick mkcoy from RCDS, about time that school gets some credit. Hes built like a tank, like to see him make it. Id like to see ryan schermerhorn make it, hes a great player.
Kevin:
Great List-
I think 2 current juniors to be – Jeffrey Mack RB (Iona Prep) and Morris Hilton MLB (Iona Prep) should get some consideration.
Also Caraun Reid DL from Mount St. Michael is one of the best DL in the area and Ryan Rossi an OL from Rye should get some looks into the list.
Good luck to all the players and stay injury free during all the summer football camps.
great list, glad to see the animal that is ian solomon is getting some credit.
C,
We’ll see how burnett plays, ive heard and seen that he could be one of the best players in section 1, possibly the best. Some people say he the missing link to a harrison state championship team, he can do it all. Claudio D should make it, segal, prob not. Rob lombardo should make it for sure. Where is Deaina? kyle ramalho should make it, rye cant lose with him on the field. Id love to see nick mckoy of RCDS make it, there 5’8 205 pd. fullback is an animal. Plus the fact RCD deserves some credit.
Thanks For the Props KEV, on the nomination
I know that SAGZ http://youtube.com/watch?v=gN7q5IKbnU4
was Basically a Defencive player recording 6 sacks and forcing turnovers, Last Season for Clarsktown South. But I see him being a big sleeper on offense this season
Kyle Sanders from Clarkstown South ?
2008 Super 11 Nominees Breakdown:
Heavy favorites
Maurice Easterling, RB/DB, Stepinac – No Brainer, Have you seen him hit?
James Brundage, RB/LB, Ossining – s/b In The Hunt – Had a decent year last year, other players were better
Rob Lombardo, FB/LB, Somers – No Brainer, best player in Section 1
Chris Alfano, WR, Iona Prep – s/b Not Even Considered – Is this a joke? Not even best player on his own team!
Strong contenders
Devonte Brailsford, RB/DL, Dobbs Ferry – s/b In The Hunt – Classic small school player who would get lost at a bigger school
Darlos James, WR/DB, Iona Prep – s/b No Brainer – 2nd best player in this area
Kyle Ramalho, FB/DL, Rye – s/b In The Hunt – only good because of the level he plays at (class b) – see iona camp
Ian Solomon, OL/DL, New Rochelle s/b No brainer, 6’ 3” 314 and is a beast, need I say more?
Guys in the hunt (alphabetical by school)
Ryan Hunt, LB, Archbishop Stepinac – s/b In The Hunt – don’t know him, but that should say something.
Ryan Shilling, QB, Carmel – s/b In The Hunt – see his attempts vs. yards passing. Did throw for 1,500 yards but had more attempts than more than half the teams in section 1
Chris Watkins, OL/DL, Carmel – s/b Strong Contender, a beast at center
Nick Saglimbeni, FB/LB, Clarkstown South – s/b In The Hunt – but a sleeper who would make you smart at the end of the year by picking him
Nick Mainiero, QB/DB, Croton-Harmon – s/b In The Hunt – good player on bad team, but has the size and experience (didn’t he start as a freshman)
Joe Larocca, QB/DB, Eastchester – s/b Not Even Considered – not even best QB on his own team, they should move him to RB
Ryan Shermerhorn, OL/LB, Fox Lane – s/b No Brainer – 6’3” 238 1/2 and moves like a D1 OLB
Jake Schaap, OL/DL, Horace Greeley – s/b In The Hunt – 6’ 2” 280 and can play TE, but another good player on a bad team makes him seem better than he is.
Justin Segal, FB/LB, Harrison s/b No Brainer- was best player on his team since he wasa sophomore (and that’s saying a lot considering jimmy falasca – who went to Army – was on that team)
Claudio DelliCarpini, WR/DB/K, Harrison s/b Not Even Considered – probably most over-rated player in the section. what has he ever done statistically?
Sir Aaron Taylor, QB, Lincoln Hall – s/b Not Even Considered – another good player on bad (really bad) team who because o fthat seems better than he is.
Robert Pope, WR/DB, Mount Vernon – s/b Strong Contender – if they ever get it going over there in football like basketball, he’d be a major D1 prospect.
Justin Autera, RB, Mahopac – s/b No Brainer – ran for almost 1,400 yards last year and just ran a 4.54 laser 40 at the section 1 combine, he might run for 2,0000 this year.
Sean Carter, RB/DB, Nanuet – s/b Not Even Considered – has nanuet ever been good?
Jonny McGhee, QB/DB, New Rochelle s/b Not Even Considered – besides starting as a soph on the best team in the section, what has he done to be considered?
Tremayne Williams, New Rochelle – s/b No Brainer – you’re biggest glaring mistake. I saw both John Jay games and the NR game, and he was the best player on the field. Better than both Walker and Rice, and they both just played most of the game in the NY/NJ Nike Classic.
Mike Fasano, QB, North Rockland – s/b Not Even Considered – another Schilling type player in that his stats don’t match his ability
Christian Garcia, OL/DL, North Rockland – s/b Not Even Considered – a simpathy pick for the best team in rockland that always has good lineman, like sanchez was at LB last year. That kid had no business being Super 11, and neither does this kid.
Dominic Leonard, RB/DB, Nyack – s/n In The Hunt – good player on good team, but not good enough for Super 11.
Patrick O’Callaghan, WR/DB, Rye – s/b Not Even Considered – I know you have to include guys on teams that dominate, but this kid? no way. Eck would be a better pick (he’s the guy you said would throw for 1,500 yards but has never taken a varsity snap, right?)
Nick McKoy, RB, RCDS – s/b In The Hunt – don’t know him, but they were a good team last year with a new coach, so they should be even better this year
Matt Deiana, RB/DB, Somers – s/b Not Even Considered – only has good stats because teams gear up to stop Lombardo. too small to do anything on his own. if he were 5’ 10” not 5’ 4”, he’d be Super 11.
Rob Aviles, QB, Suffern – s/b Not Even Considered – another good player on bad team who’s stats lie about ability.
So kevin, of your 31 players, you have 4 “heavy favorites”, 4 strong contenders, and 23 in the hunt. 23 guys for 3 spots? That’s way too many. I have 8 No Brainers, but then 2 strong contenders trying to hold off 9 guys who are in the hunt for the last 3 spots, and I got rid of the 12 “dead wood” guys you have on here. you also gotta remember, we’re talking about the Super 11. All these guys are really good, and probably going to be All-Section, so it’s pretty good company. But that’s why they call it Super 11, not really good 31!
kevin, I just saw you had robert pope listed as a wr/db. he’s a TE/DE, and impossible to block coming off the edge!
schermerhorn is a d-lineman
MPJ89, i complately agree with you about brundage and tremayne W. They should switch spots. I dont agree with you about CDC, he is very good, harrisons just not a huge passing team, segal should also make it. How can players like joe larocca and pat o’callaghan be considered. Pat O’C is a mediocre player surrounded by great players. Nick mckoy is a much better player from RCD, hes just form a less “publicized” team. Schermerhorn should make it for sure.
mpj89
Chris Alfano made Class AA second team all state as a junior. He was a touchdown machine who had big games against great competition like St. Anthony in the CHSAA AAA semifinals whne he was unstoppable- Your entitled to your opinion but I think you have not given this kid enough respect.
Kevin, watch out for chris kim from RCD, hes a 5’10 175 pd. RB who runs a 4.5. Also watch out for jeremy burnett from harrison, hes very talented. Why is tremayne williams only in the hunt? Hes a no-brainer. wat has jstin autera doen but run a 4.5? How can joe laroccs even come close to being in the hunt. Ramalho ahould make it for sure, he is the key ot ryes team. Thank you MPJ89 for making justin segal a no-brainer, he is one of the best LB in the section. You are about dellicarpini, he is good.
For your information Kevin, Jake Schaap is transferring to Trinity Pawling and re-classifying for 2010 so that takes care of one of your contenders.
To MPJ89
Devonte Brailsford is a 6’1 205 pound fullback. He has started since a freshman and has racked up over 1700 yards in two seasons averaging over 7 yard per carry and 30 touchdowns. He has never been the first option on his team either. I cannot say he would perform in higher classes because I don’t know if hed be able to, A and AA are different animals but the super 11 isnt about class. Its about what a player has accomplished and the type of impact theyll have this season. He is a strong contender in my opinion, but I respect your opinion.
In terms of athletic ability theres not too many that are better than CDC but he is at a huge disadvantage that he is not on a passing team. If he were on a passing team and performed the way we all know he can then he would be a heavy favorite but because Harrison does not pass that much its hard to put him there. Best of luck to him and Harrison this season.
Williams from New Ro should be a strong contender. He’s awesome.
How about Patrice Castor from Ramapo? I leader on and off the field, a very hard worker, possibly just as good a wrestler as football player. May be the guy to get Ramapo over the hump. Nyack is loaded with a lot of returning players who played together as pop warner stars watch out for several of them.
I agree with you about CDC, if he played on a passing team he would be an animal. Good luck to him, and watch out for a talented harrison team to surprise somers. Is it a joke that tremayne williams is only in the hunt. He is one of the best player in the section. If chris alfano was 4 inches taller, he would be a no-brainer. How can pat o’callaghan even come close to being considered. He is a decent player, surrounded by great players. Also, joe larocca, sean carter. Is this a joke. Id love to see segal make it, hes a great player. How can brundage be that high? How about jeremy burnett form harrison, hes an animal?
Lombardo is good, but hes not the best player in the section.
Rob Aviles is not even playing next year just so you know.
Pat O’Callaghan may appear to be a medicore player, but from what I’ve heard about his leadership and field intelligence, Bonsall (WR last yr all state) would not have run a play correctly without his help… O’C may not run a 4.2 or jump through the roof, but his intangebles at least earn him a look at the “considered” list
everybody please remember that this is a list of 31 contenders for the top 11 in the section, obviously some may not belong in the top 11 but deserve to be looked at… kevin maybe a little too many on your list
Is it me or is this list a lot weaker than last year’s list?Dont see a lot of DI or DIAA players here.
K.Sanders of Clarkstown South should of made your list of 31.He Did it all from field goals to receving TD’s,last season !This year being asked to play QB.he’s a great ATH,Sagz is going to be a beast also I C 1500yrd & @ least 15 TD’s 4 HIM .Some say that South lost alot but I C a playoff bound team! finaly stoping Da Red Raiders String of wins!!!!!! Go South
RCDS is an up and coming program. Chris Kim is one of the best athletes in the area. He’s getting looks from several D1AAs (Dartmouth, Harvard, and UMASS.) He’s a Mt. Vernon kid who just happens to be a very talented basketball player. It must be something in the water!
Nick Mckoy ran for 1200 yds. last year.
Derek O’Dell from haldane not getting any love. The kid took the team to the regional final and he is a pure animal. Ranked in the top 5 in tackles for the year. Come on now guys
SAGZ http://youtube.com/watch?v=E30sz3XoCKI
Section1Recruit 2008 MVP for LB’s
Hey Eagles, No Class D player belongs on Sup 11. Should be mostly AA with a few As and Bs. Top five tackles from class D means 0.
you guys are proving my point about DelliCarpini. Yes, the kid is a sick athlete, just look at what he does in track. But this isn’t the Super 11 Athletes in Section 1, he’d probably be tops on that list. This is the Super 11 in Football! His coach should move him to RB if they don’t pass in the offense he is in, but as a WR/DB he is not Super 11, not even close. What has he done? Maxpreps doesn’t keep good defensive stats, so maybe he had more INTS and Tackles than I’m giving him credit for, but offensivly there are about 20 kids more deserving of Super 11. Everyone on here has been talking about how great he is, but where’s the proof? Show me how he is different than every other WR on teams that don’t throw the ball? Does he score TDs? Get 1st Downs? What has he done on the field to be considered among the Super 11 players in this area?
Ctown saying that no class d player belongs on Super 11 is, no offense, a dumnb statement. You have to look at the kid. It’s why I say Brailsford is a classic “small school” player. Yes, he’s a 6’ 1” 205 fullback, but players that are that big on that level and Super 11 dominate. Brailsford hasn’t dominated like he should, rushing for 1,800, 2,000 yards. When I was a kid Matt Bernstein from Edgemont was huge, and dominated on the class c level. He was a small school Super 11. Not O’Dell, not Brailsford, but you can’t base it on the class, you have to base it on the kid.
If sagz was this good why did he wash out in jersey at st joes? It just shows that bergen football blows away section 1. Nobody outside of south or north rockland is excited about that game. wake me when its over.
Dear Dbp81,
Get your story straight before you talk
Sagz walked out on Joe’sIt’s takes a real athlete to do that. Could you? Who would walk away from Joe’s when they want you to stay? He took their opportunity to play for them then he chose to give his skills to his own HS, Clarkstown South where all his Popwarner friends & teammates were – It took a real athlete to do that even though everyone told him his only exposure would be at Joe’s.Beside’s 10000 a year would be better served for College! I guess Sagz was right- he said if your good you’ll be noticed anywhere – I’m glad you still notice him!!!!!! After all Section 1AA is not a mickey mouse Division!WE do have D1 players!!! Tell me how many D1 player come out of the DB class this year!!!!!!!!!!franco,
just listening to how fired up you are I cannot wait for the south-suffern game this year. I just hope there is enough parking for the dozen people who show up. Toal, teel, liverpool, garvin, disanzo, roche, nurse, simms, levy, etc, etc, etc and I forgot clarkstown souths own Ryan Grant. I wonder why he left south to go to bosco? I guess he didn’t want to be part of that 3 win season. have a nice season
dbp81,
Come see me for a cut, @ Franco’S 264east rt 59 in Nanuet OR Call me ,I’ll explain! (845) 624-CUTS
Dbp81 you are a tool! Your comparison of Bergen football is flat out dumb. Many of the players from those catholic schools are NY kids. Yes on paper they would blow away Section 1 football but they recruit and recruit from section 1!
This doesn’t mean I feel these kids should go to their public schools if they are in fact talented enough to go to the likes of bosco and play with some of the best around. But this is up to the parents and the kid himself. So your comments about the kid Sagz, is out of line without knowing the facts.
There alot of better players on Rye that should be considered. you have got guys from Croton harmon and Lincoln who shouldnt be on this list , there are amazing players from Rye that just dont get recognized because of how good the team is. Harrison should also have burnett there. Fix it Devaney i could name atleast 5 more rye guys that should be there.
all i remember about nick saglimbeni is that he was so horrible at linebacker that they had to move him to d-end where granted he played ok..as for a sleeper on offense thats a joke, any passes tj ever through to last year he dropped..wutever maybe he’ll prove me wrong
Next year,
He got moved to DE because south’s line was getting eaten up,,last season, IF he sucked at line backer why did he recieve SEctions 1 recruiting MVP at LINEBACKER!!!!!!!!!!
Ryan Schermerhorn, from Fox Lane is an absolute no brainer for Super 11. With his frame and ability to move, he might have the best shot in section 1 at receiving a Division 1-A Scholarship.
Question for Joe McEwing. Is Rob Aviles playing basketball next year or is he just going to focus on pitching?
mpj89,
Brailsford hasn’t dominated because he’s had 3 all state players in the backfield along with him. Scattaretico, Saunders and Higbie were all excellent players, along with brailsford. Watch him EXPLODE this year, with 3 new backfield mates coming in who don’t have all that much experience. The coach will look for leadership, which he will find in Brailsford, who will get at least 17-20 carries a game next year.
im not talkin trash im just saying wut i remember..good for him that hes improving and can hopefully help south get a few wins this year after losing pretty much every decent player they have to graduation..kilcarr, d’anna, antoine, devine, and kiernan left some pretty big shoes to fill
lot of players out there not even named all you big talkers will see who they are after there action speaks louder than all your bogus words
SRM that was a BOLD statement. What would your super 11 be? If possible, try and not include your”bitter” self!
Why does RCD get no publicity, last year they could have hit with some of the best public schools in the area, including Rye. Chris kim is an animal and should get consideration, he is very fast and a workhorse. Hes even better than nick mckoy.
RCD doesnt get the attention b/c it is a prep school. It is unfair, but thats just kinda the way it is.
Any reports from the Rye 7 on 7’s?
fix it,
if you really think rye has that many people who should be in consideration for super 11 i suggest you go to iona prep camp this year. Your in for a shock seeing them vs new ro and iona
Wack,
i agree with you RCd should get more attention. I mean they have a great QB and skill players. If they were returning that line which averaged about 6-2 265 they would beat anyone in their path.
10801- Your a joke if you think Rye will get smacked around at the Iona Camp your in denial of ryes dominance. I can’t wait for Rye to dominate this camp because they are better than Iona Prep and New Rochelle your a bum and cant wait to see you at the camp.
as far as last year… rye held their own at the Iona camp and gave some good comp. to much bigger Iona and New Ro teams
animal, i mentioned bernstien from edgemont, he had 3 all-state players in the backfiled when he was a sophomre, and 3 different ones when he was a junior and senior. he still dominated. brailsford is only a junior this year right? if he rushes for close to 2,000, then he’s worthy, and will prove me worng. I think i can name 20 guys in AA alone that are 6’ 1” 205 lbs and could do what he has done so far.
fix it,
gimme your address, ill send you the tape of new rochelle’s second team scoring twice on ryes first offense from last year. your an idiot for being so ignorant. the camp happened last year and rye was smacked around. They are a great CLASS B team. thats it. o and ill be there so i hope you come up to me when rye is getting destroyed so i can laugh.
Rye isnt going to be that good this year. Get a big defensive line and you can stop kyle Rahmalo. Name another factor rye has.
10801 -Get off the drugs and start watching some more football because you have absolutely no knowledge of the game. How many years in a row has rye dominated harrison and how many of all those years did Harrison basically dominate CLASS A!!! Your a Joke …. get your facts straight. In 2005 and 2006 Harrison would of smacked both New Rochelle and Iona Prep any year besides the 2003 and 2004 years of New Ro. As far as the camp goes, Dino Garr im sure didnt treat it as serious as a game and im sure you didnt see him getting all crazy because its a camp… Do you know what that means, a camp is to test players and see how they test out for the season, getting the younger players some reps, not to try to demolish opponents which Rye easily could. How do you know that was Rye’s first team and i didnt know a offense could score on an offense ?? WOW?!! Well see this year and i will come over to you and say how brutally wrong you are about this.
Fix IT
You seem to want to talk trash against Iona Prep and New Rochelle and you come off as an idiot who does not have a sense of football-
Lets get something straight- Iona Prep was looking for any section 1 team to play during the first week of the season and even Kevin Devaney wrote about it on his blog. So instead of whipping up on the weak Class B competition that you play I am sure Iona would have been happy to play you anywhere- To prove this point Iona is playing defending LARGE School CT Champ New Caneen.
For you to even think that you are in the same class as both Iona and New Rochelle then you need to get out of that bubble you live in at Rye. New Rochelle plays teams such as North Rockland and Monrow Woodbury that would kick the shit of Rye. Iona plays week in and week out in the CHSAA AAA that features teams like St. Anthony, Farrell (who by the way spanked Harrison last year at the Mahpac scrimmages), Mount St. Michael and Chaminade from Long Island. Rye would get smoked by these teams.
Stick to beating Class B competition before you can step up with the big boys.
Anyone who think Rye would could beat new rochelle in any of the past 5 years is seriously crazy.. I dont know why you use Harrison as a measuring stick..they arent that good. they havent demolished anyone with a high status or sent anyone anywhere recently..And for “Fix IT” maybe Dino Carr should take it a little more seriously..your just making ridiculous excuses…And for rye supposidly being able to “demolish” opponents, couldnt be more of a faulty statement.
Fix it,
you are wrong in everytihng you say. I cant remember a time when rye dominated harrison, not even this year. They’ve won, but not dominated. ive talked to troilo and he thinks he has the team to beat rye next year. ive talked to the players and they say if troilo gets the job done, they can beat rye for sure. You are very ignorant in saying rye would dominate New Ro and iona. Who im sure would both beat rye. Just stop talking. You are embarrassing the whole town of rye.
Go eagles,
Was able to watch a little of RYE’S 7 on 7, from what
I saw the team from Albany was the most consistant team, it
appears IONA might hav a QB controversy brewing. Iona’s
receivers look small compared to last year however Alfano
is real good! Rye had some defensive secondary lapses, in which had DINO yelling. Eastchester who doesn’t throw the ball at all had some ups and downs. The problem they were having is with the JV players not ready for the speed at the varsity level alot of blown coverages but with time that can be fixed. Dobbs didn’t look as athletic as it has in the past. Hasting ran the spread as well and Briacliff
was the weakiest of the bunch!
Fix it,
You are the most ignorant of ignorant rye fans. I bet you could make an argument for rye to beat don bosco, or win the florida 6A state championship. You seem to base your exsistence on the fact rye has a good football team. Also, rye has never dominated harrison. Theyve gotten lucky and won some years. other years they were evenly matched and rye just pulled out the win. What harrison did to rye from 1990-2000. That was domination. i see no reason why harrison cant beat them next year. To say rye would whip new ro is the most ignorant of comments. Your just another rye fan trying to start trouble.
Fix it,
Rye dominating Iona is not happening- Rye would have trouble winning 2 games in the CHSFL AAA- By the way they would not have beaten Stepinac last year who played in the CHSFL AA. Iona and New Rochelle have more depth and more speed than Rye would put on the field. You are not living in reality.
Peter
Darlos James who is a division 1 player at WR/DB was not at the Rye 7/7.
all this talk about rye being so good and that they could dominate a, I would have like them to compete with Ossining or fox lane last year or play a full class a scheduale
Fix it,
Shut up. you are the most ignorant rye fan. thats saying alot sayingt here are a lot of ignorant rye fans. Rye will not even beat harrison next year, as long as troilo doesn’t screw up. let alone iona and new ro. just be quiet. i hope u get beat in by iona and new ro, and then harrison.
Dobbs Ferry did very well during the 7 on 7 what are you talking about. The team from Albany was not that good, the most consistent was obviously Iona. The QB threw many good passes. Rye looked decent but they are only really good because of Ramalho and the line but the little Eck looked good and they should be good this year as always. Hastings and Briarcliff were out of their league and playing better schools so I dont know how well they will do this season. Eastchester was okay, they had some speedy recievers but the passing wasnt too good.
irvington dominated albertus nd clarkstown south at albrtus’ 7 on 7
thank you to everyone who backed me up. I don’t mean to insult rye as they are a very good class B team, just class B is a great difference between AA and CHSFL AAA
fix it,
last year rye was completley overmatched by new rochelle the oline didnt block anybody and new rochelles defense didnt give up a first down against them.It was a strugle for ryes first team offense to score agaisnt the new rochelle backups
yea rye doesnt know domination against the huskies, harrison 1990-2000 was domination like the gigs said, 49-7 1999, and the rest were very similar, i wouldnt want to post the rest of the scores because that would just be embarresing and an insult to the rye public. And they carry them selves like fix it since they been putting out good football teams for the past couple of years, they can call any1 they want out adn say that they could beat them which is not true at all. They say they can beat new ro and iona, yea in their dreams. Good luck if you play teams like Ossoing and somers in Harrison’s class. i wish rye would play the opponets that harrison plays like nyack, eastchester, ossoing, foxlane, somers, even spring valley is a tough team, look out for them!. please they wouldnt go another season undefeated for a while thats for sure.
Yea rye would be able to win Class A some years, but an undefeated season is unlikely. Funny how last years rye team didnt win the class B state championship, but would have contended for a class A state championship. This year, they won the class B championship, but would not have even been in contention to win class A. lansingburgh would kill them, and aquinas would murder them.
rye will soon move up to A and i promise you they would have at least 2 loses if they have a good team
a good “class b team”
Dear Next Year
You are talking Trash !!!!!!! To say there’s no decent players left at south is insane did you Forget that Sanders,Sagz,Dilo,Akeem ,Baker Just to mention a few were all part of one of the best teams that Souths had in a while finaly getting in and wining in the playoffs!Kilcarr, D’anna, Antoine, Devine, and Kiernan Are all Allstars for sure! And true leaders And are the reason why we had the season we had!!!!!but football is a team sport and every one did what was asked. Some making sacrafices for the bigger picture! You Sound like a south Fan But have a hard time accepting SAGZ remember youre on the same team he’ll make you Proud, pove you wronge, make you eat your words!!!
ok lets all stop bashing rye because one stupid fan started talking out of his @$$. many of you are right to say rye is a good class b team, they are. but when they move up to A in a couple of years Dino Garr will show you that he can make anything into winners. much of ryes success is a direct result of Dino out coaching the other team. to sum it up last years rye team would lose to New Ro by two touchdowns, and iona prep by about the same. but would have beatten John jay, somers, ossing, eastchester, spring valley, fox lane and many other big A schools. primarily becouse of the outstanfing coaching of Garr. Stop hatting on rye. they will felid a good team as always but to say its one of the top 3 best schools in the scetion is rediculas. there is a reason when kevin ranks his teams he does so by BIG, and small…
and “fix it” i would love to hear the 5 players from rye that desive to be mentioned.
i didn’t know so many people hated rye
jealous much???
no one is jealous of rye. its just obnoxious fans who don’t realize that rye is a good b school and is not the greatest school to ever play. They would not have beat any top aa school somers ossining or fox lane.
I’m sorry but sagz I just watched your flim. And you are not good. you shouldn’t be advertising yourself . No real football player would come on this blog to hype himself up. So what if you won linebacker MVP at the section 1 combine. What in fact is the section1 combine. Do real d1 players go there…. no. instead of wasting time on this blog. go learn how to roll your hips when you tackle.
rye crazy
As an Iona fan I have nothing against Rye- I actually want them to do well during the state playoffs. But when you have an uninformed Rye fan bashing both the New Rochelle and Iona Football programs it sheds a bad light on the knowledge of some fans. The sad part is that all three programs play in different classifications so people from the area should root for New Rochelle, Iona Prep and Rye if they all make the playoffs.
The I,
Careful now son. Don’t go insulting others where it doesn’t belong. The Section 1 Player Evaluation Day is THE place where Section 1 Football Players get to show their skills locally. And check the roster of players who have attended the last two years. You will find most of the top players in the Section have attended. Have you been to watch?
Fagan,
What happened to John Malone, is he still with you or have
you guys parted ways! The question has been asked and your not responding! You guys were a great team for section 1
coverage were do you guys stand!
TO MPJ89 AS TO YOUR INSULT TO MATT DEIANA HIS 5’7” AND 180LBS AND RAN A 4.47 AT AN INVITE ONLY CAMP AT BOSTON COLLEGE. HE PLAYED LAST YEAR WITH A BAD KNEE AND HIGH ANKLE SPRAIN. HE DID NOT PRACTICE UNTIL THE 6TH GAME OF THE YEAR.
AND STILL PUT UP GOOD NUMBERS.IF YOU REALLY WANT TO SEE HOW IMPORTANT HE WAS TO HIS TEAM LOOK UP THE STATS FOR THE LAST 3 GAMES WITHOUT HIM IF I REMEMBER THEY LOST THE LAST 2 GAMES WITHOUT HIM. MATT IS A TEAM PLAYER. HE NOT ONLY RUNS THE BALL . HE BLOCKS HIS ASS OFF FOR THE OTHER BACKS. ASK ANY PLAYER WHO HAS PLAYED WITH OR AGAINST HIM AND IM SURE THEY WOULD TELL YOU HOW GOOD HE IS. IF YOU HAVE AN OPINION ON WHO SHOULD BE SUPER 11 THATS FINE , THATS YOUR RIGHT BUT DONT INSULT YOUNG ATHLETES, WHO ALL GO OUT AND WORK HARD TO BE PRODUCTIVE ON THE FIELD,ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU DONT KNOW THE ATHLETES YOU ARE COMMENTING ON. KEEP IT INTELLIGENT NOT CHILDISH. AND FOR THE RECORD MY NAME IS STEVE DEIANA
Francocutz/ , from one father to another, take it easy on the posts. Its great to see your enthusiasm for your sons career, however, all that youre doing is bringing the haters out. Your son is probably gonna have a fine senior year but it pains me to continually read your posts followed by someone knocking your kid. Lets let his play do the talking
Hey the I,
I’m just a proud dad Talking thash for My Kid, He has no Clue in what i’m doing ,He couldn’t even tape a game, not alone put some video onto the internent !!!!!! He proably kill me if

Peter,
thanks for the update. I wasn’t there, but I heard Dobbs did pretty well especially considering they are class C. Eastchester struggled early then came on and did well against Rye. Iona (along with New Ro)is always the class of Westchester, but they recruit. Hastings and Briarcliff struggling is consistant with what I heard.
yo anyone hear anything about two new players going to Magnus who played over in Jerz?
dear nonsense,
you can cry recruit all you want but the fact is that many of bosco/joes/bergen catholic players come from public schools where the home program has a great opportunity to keep them in house but cannot because the competition and exposure is so much better than section 1. why would a player leave a program he is already in to go to an out of state school? The answer is because they blow away rockland football. Bosco is rated in the top 10 in the country and will be playing against De la salle of california and St X of Ohio and for the last several years have played the state championship in the meadowlands. Where will the south-suffern game be played this year and what channel is it on? As for rockland football if you put the publics in the NNJIL they would get beaten up by the likes of hackensack, montclair, ridgewood etc etc etc. I will say though that sagz is a good player and should have stayed at joes but I heard that south recruited him to come back.
TP,
I heard of one who actually went to ALbertus his freshman year and transfered out and is now back for his junior year..his name is kevin omeji i think and from wut i remember he showed some promise as a fullback and ive heard hes been an absolute beast so far during workouts..sadly i dont think he will be enough to save albertus’s season this year as they lost their main core to graduation and will return only one senior this upcoming year..they will be a young team who will be much better next season as opposed to the one coming up
Pete,
I did answer the question on Sunday. Under the blog entry Section 1 Combine. Here’s what I said:
Unfortunately no, John Malone is no longer a part of Section1Recruiting, Inc. He took a job as a security guard at Roosevelt Island, and his new hours prohibit him from attending games, etc. I am looking for help in continuing that part of the website however. As a coach, I feel it is a conflict of interest for me to have any part of ranking teams, players, etc, and I have never had anything to do with that aspect. Unless I can find people to continue what John started, that part of the website won’t continue. If there are people out there who like to be a part of the website, and write about teams, players, etc, we are “hiring”, so please email me.
DP:
You are essentially defending my point. You can not compare the two! Your points are 100% accurate and that is why you shouldn’t even mention them together. It is like saying North Carolina basketball blows away STAC. The bottom line is if a kid is good enough to go to a school like Bosco, they should. But this depends on the parents, the kid, finances, commute, etc.
In My Humble oponion Ryes teams of 05, and 06 could handle any team in any class. They were well coached, BIg, Strong, fast and physical.
nonense, the point is that the coaches have the opportunity to keep these kids when they are in their schools by selling them on their own program but the programs are so weak that the kids want better. its not recruiting its quality of programs and that is what sells the kids not recruiting. I also do not remember recruiting being an issue when bosco was weak. Look at mt vernon basketball they do not lose players to the catholics because their program is strong and kids want that along with exposure. Ditto for Peekskill.
lincoln hall has a football team? who do they play against, the guards?
Keith,
Thus the reason why your site has not been updated on a
regular basis. Section 1 fans wish him well, Keith try to
find someone with the passion John had for section 1
football. It was John’s comments and controversy that kept your site a interesting read. Good luck in finding a replacement you’ll need it to stay on top!
DP I disagree with you 100%. I was a recruited athlete and I am also a coach and the son of a coach. 99% of public high schools can’t compete with the likes of a Bosco. Public High school sports are secondary in most cases. If you use Bosco for an example they can assemble an all star team. How do you “sell” against that? How do you sell against playing against Lasalle? How do you sell against the fact that you are practicing against premier HS athletes who are on YOUR team. It is impossible. The quality of ball is different. A special athlete most of the time is not going to stay at a public high school whether the coach is great or not.
Your example of Mt. Vernon to me is somewhat unique, but I am not 100% sure they have never lost players to the likes of Rice, St. Rays, etc. Public High School programs like Mt,. Vernon, Lincoln in NYC and a few others are exceptions to the rule.
You attempted to compare top notch private schools to Section 1 football. You are now trying to divulge into the specifics and jsut can’t see a true point behind the original topic. Lastly recruting is ALWAYS an issue with Bosco, Joes, Bergen, etc..Bosco is just at the top right now, that is why they are mentioned most.
don’t hate on small school players. guys like nick mainiero would be good in any class. if you’re trying to justify having devonte brailsford in the running because he is 6’1 205, mainiero weighs in at around 205 and is about 6’1 not to mention he plays Qb. At the blue grey he put up 185 for 17 reps and has recently put up 20+. i beilive at the combine he also ran around a 4.6 40. saying he’s a “good player on a bad team” also helps his case cause brailsford has played on state champion caliber teams where as mainiero played on a good team his sophmore year, leading his team 8-1 record losing to eventual state champs dobbs, as a first year QB. not to mention he threw for nearlly 1000 yards in a wing t offense which is a predomintatly running offense.
if you are gonna say devonte can be in the running just because of size and preformance, you have to give mainiero a shot too.
Nonsense
Good points, but the players still have to go to New Jersey to play at those schools, so it is only partially attractive. I equate it to saying “ok son, we are going to give you a scholarship, but we have to remove one of your legs”.
For your information rye haters…. rye’s 2005 team could of beat any team in the section and state regardless of class. Two Division 1 players, 6 D1AA players, and 3 D3 players and 2 guys that played on club teams. A division 1 Lacrosse player and a Future pro baseball player .....mix that in with an amazing coaching staff and you’ve got a team that could beat ANY IONA PREP Team, and some new ro except the 2003 and 2004 teams. I would also put my money on the 2006 team but in 2007 there offensive lines were too small to compete in AA, but i think they could go undefeated league record and compete for a section championship in AA but who knows? In 2008 we will…... have to see.
Comparing NY football to Jersey football is extremely difficult right now. Bergen football has historically been a hotbed for talent while Section 1 might be good every once in a while, it will never compare to North Jersey in terms of football talent. Its like comparing section one to NYC in hoops. MV might win the Feds, but NYC has ten other teams that could beat MV.NewRos team 4 yrs ago with 7ish D1 studs could have beaten anyone in the Northeast but a team like that only comes around every 30+ years in Section1.The Torchia kid traveled 100 plus miles a day to commute from Cold Spring to Jersey. He became a top 100 player in high school and is now #2 on the depth chart at TE for VA.Its unlikely that he goes to Va from Haldane without doing at least a 5th year somewhere
I would put Anthony Davis from Nyack on the list of possibilities.
He had a great year last year at fullback and dline.
Rileygirl:
Well said. You always have very knowledgeable posts!
FYI, can you list the 2 Division 1 players and 6 D1AA, because the only ones i am thinking of all play d3 except antico at georgetown, monaghan at middlebury, nieves at hobart, donnely at johns hopkins, welling at tufts (?)
If Westchester had a Prep school that was an elite sports powerhouse that attracted all of the top football players from Section 1(Rockland, Westchester, North Jersey and Ct) then you could compare them to Bosco.
For the record Iona Prep is not even remotely close. Don Bosco is a prep school in every sense of the word. In some cases players complete a year of high school(9th grade) and then reclassify as a freshmen at Bosco thus gaining another year of maturity.
Franco’s 624-CUTS,
Enough already about your son, rileygirl is right your just putting a bad light on him. Quite frankly if he left St Joes to go back to South and could have played at St Joes then it was a very very foolish decision. At this point let his play speak for itself. Just because he was picked for an award by the PED at Section 1 folks, well that whole thing is a joke so lets not go there. Any way you got them to mention his name so now you can stop..please. Being a proud Dad is fine, but if he doesnt know what your doing then that makes two of you.
fellas, the point is this, Rcokland football and basketball are weak and even though you have legendary coaches like cassarella and worsley running programs the kids see where the opportunities are at and they head there to play. Look at bosco and joes fball and bball rosters and you see they are littered with kids from theses two schools. Why? Because the level of play is better and its not just recruiting recruiting and recruiting. Its opportunity and exposure and instead of whining about it, make your programs better and sell that to the kids and maybe things will change. I also believe in jersey that here should be a private schools league seperate from publics.
DB I see where you are coming from, but your inital intent has nothing to do with what you are saying now. Either way, I still disagree with what you are saying. Your example is not about HS sports it is a lesson learned in life. If you have a better opportunity then you go for it. It has noting to do with Rockland sports being weak. It has to do with what is best for the kid.
You also are contradiciting yourself. You make a statement about Casarella being legendary and then on the other hand you say “make your programs better” How much better can North Rockland get? If the coach is legendary then so is the program! The bottom line is you are comparing powerhouse private schools to public high schools. It makes no sense whatsoever. You can continue to blame it on exposure and “selling your program” but that is no reality nor is is truthful.
WazzuNY88 – I think FYI is a little wrong on his assesment of college players from Rye 2005
The two division 1 players are Franny Archibald who will play at Navy in the fall, and Robert Nieves who will transfer to Syracuse in the Fall. Antico is a D1AA player at G-TOWN and Jay Adams and Jack Donnelly are at John Hopkins was which is d3 or D1AA?. Urso plays at MT Sinai i think UPSTATE which is d3. Welling is at Tuft which is D3, and Telesco the TB is playing at Hudson Valley CC looking to play either D1AA or D3. Monoghan Plays WR at MIddlebury which is D3 i think. The Center of that team now plays Division 1 Lacrosse at Darmouth on Defense ( Kevin Davis). The other D1 lacrosse player is TJ Smith who is now at Ohio State. And the Baseball player is AJ Triano im not sure what his status is on getting drafted but he is a legit pick to atleast get drafted next year. He goes to Manhantville. This is all i have.. hopefully FYI can get his facts straight.
nonsense, good talking to ya, keep up the good work
FYI
You have no clue- Iona Prep has more players playing college football than Rye and thats a fact- Their last two QB’s are playing in the 1AA patriot league at Lafayette and Fordham University.
Rye would never survive playing in the CHSFL AAA and they would get spanked by New Rochelle, North Rockland and Monroe Woodbury. Rye is a very good Class B school. Someone please tell me who in Class B would beat New Rochelle or Iona. I need a good laugh.
I hear Mainiero is a very solid player and supposedly
is getting some seroious looks from good d1 & d2 schools
dear mr. deiana, you need to get a new tape measure at your house, your son is 5’5” at best. Maybe your only 5’ 2”, so you think your son is taller than he is. and, if your son didn’t practice until week 6 but still played in games, then he is either soft, or a dog, or both, because if he’s too hurt to practice, but “all of a sudden” can play on gameday, that’s weak. If i was his team mate I’d be pissed and call him on it. how selfish are you, saying that your son is so important to the team they can’t win without him. can you spell e-g-o-m-a-n-i-a-c. stop living through your son and let it go already. as far as my opinion, it’s just that. maybe you felt the need to comment because what i said was true? you overbearing fathers all crack me up. get a life already, and stop worrying about what people say on a blog!
ps learn how to use a keyboard, and lose the CAPS LOCK!
all im saying is September 27th is the date of war Harrison vs Rye, best game in the state. Harrison is going to rye’s turf.
deiana measured in at 5”7 at the ultimate 100 camp and is getting heavy interest from boston college so i think you should keep your mouth shot since the kid will have played more varsity years than any one around here when he graduates, but i guess playin varsity football in 8th grade must mean your pretty soft.get a life because you never got on the field
especially if your not willing to leave your own name
yea deiana is very good, my cousin played against him in 7th grade and he played about two plays and scored on each, on one play our team recovered a fumble and returned it from our own 10 and brought it to their 25 but before that happen when our DE was at the 45 deiana sprinted from the 10 to catch him at the 25 and make him fumble to get it back for somers. He looked like a varsity player then. But i he was not unstoppable, rye and harrison stoped him their games and somers lost so when he is a senior idk who else he has to help him out, no lombardo to lean back on thats for sure.
Next years rye-harrison game is goin got be a bloodbattle. Harrison is seeking major revenge, rye just wants to keep the streak alive. Harrison probably wants to embarrass rye on their home turf. But rye is returning a good team. I think harrison is gonna win, they have a deep talent pool. Segal, burnett, protano, jones, claudio, the list goes on. With some great, big, young linemen and RB’s comin up to varsity. Ive talked to some harrison players and they acknowledge that they can be good and beat rye next year as long as troilo doesnt screw up. Hoping for a great game.
i was on that 7th grade team. and somers didnt lose to harrison, and when they lost to rye, the 8th graders brought matt up nd he didnt play with us
i heard that if harrison wins they arent going to be aloud to jump in the brook, i think that is bs, its tradition and i hope trolio sits in that brook for a while if they do take rye down
you all need to stop bashing these kids.deiana is a great player.end of story.if you have a bad opinion keep it to yourself until at least after the games when kids can defend themselves
i belive the harrison vs somers score was 14-0, deiana ran the ball down the field a couple of times but got taken out at the redzone and somers couldnt get it in, i have the tapes to back it up but maybe harrison lost or tied them at the end of the season, i think they played twice.
i have the tapes too.somers won 14-0, than 28-7. matt had 5 of the 6 tds
Class A, is that really true. Its a great tradition and one that was practiced routinely through the 90’s. But i heard from a harrison player who i was talking to about the game with, say if they won, which i think they will, they will jump in the brook. Why wouldnt they let harrison, they are barking to get back in that brook.
The latest comment on the football pre-season ranking post is by a rye fan, surprise there. He says that rye will humble harrison yet again and put their MEDIOCRE football programback ion the dump. Out of all the ignorant rye coments, this is the worst. Harrisons fotball program is far from mediocre. they generally have a reputation as a powerhouse state-wide. One mediocre season that was riddled with injuries, does not make harrison a mediocre program. I hope harrison stomps them to the ground, so rye fans have something else to comment stupidly on.
Hey all,
Kyle Ramalho from rye should make superr 11, the kid is a tank he runs the ball about 30 times a game and always plays injred. Rossi from Rye also deserves some credit, I saw him play aginst Harrison and did a great Job. There are alot of players of Rye who deserve this honnor. Lambardo from somers is a hell of a player and Solomen from New Rochelle is dominate on the Line. He is also a beast in the weight room. Easterling is a no brainer, he might be the best player in Section 1.
Yea I heard about that as well im sure that they are just going to jump in anyway what are they going to do arrest them?
All im gonna say is that it sucks that no one from briarcliff gets any recognition. We are going to shock people this year. Pleasantville you better watch out because last year was a fluke. 14-7 14-7 14-7
Harrison a mediocre football program??
what kind of twisted world do these rye fans live in. Thats like saying nyack is a mediocre football program because of 2 mediocre seasons. Harrison is going to beat rye next year and take a full spa day in it. Harrison can counter anything rye can throw at them. Throw lombarod at us, segal will knock him out. Throw some good linmen at us, we’ll knock them out with our better line. And rye wont be able to handle burnett and dellicarpini.
please briarcliff wont do anything
Class A Fan it is the Definition of a War the BEST RIVALRY IN THE STATE BY FAR RYE VS HARRISON.
If Harrison beats rye on their turf its their right to jump in the brook but dont count on it.
this rye bashing sounds familiar… around this time last year rye was terrible, they were going to lose 3 games in regular season and miss playoffs, harrison was going to win by 3 TDs, they looked awful at iona camp and 7v7. well, what happened after that?
Maurice Easterling is a beast, i saw him tear it up against Fordham he deserves a spot without a doubt. for a guy who isnt a monster, he brings the wood, in my eyes one of the hardest hitting DBs in section1/cath. league this year.
Lombardo from somers is also a sure-in in my mind. the kid is a straight animal, he had some of the biggest hits ive seen first hand against ossining last year and running the ball hes a tank. he will def be in the 11.
Darlo James is another guy that was great in 07, on a team full of talent last year he really stood out. same with T.Williams from NewRo, i saw him make a great John Jay Linebacker-core look silly under the lights at Cross River in the playoffs. check his highlight tape on youtube out if ur doubting him.
a guy that alot of people are sleeping on who is a great player is Nick Mainiero from Croton. Croton had a bad season last year but he still managed to have a great year. in the playoffs against magnus he led a clearly lesser team to victory in the biggest upset in rectent section 1 playoff history, returning his first KR of his career for a TD in the 4th quarter to seal a W for the tigers. you cant leave him out of the super 11 cause his team had a rough year, as a coach once told me, “u can’t make chicken salad out of chicken shit”
i dont know, those are just a few guys who i think are no brainers to get it.
why isnt Ryan LoGiudici on this list hes a top prospect in the state
Yes rye was underestimated last year, we’ll see what happens this year.
Maurice Easterling is a beast, i saw him tear it up against Fordham he deserves a spot without a doubt. for a guy who isnt a monster, he brings the wood, in my eyes one of the hardest hitting DBs in section1/cath. league this year.

Maniero is a great player. Super 11? Get out of here.
I think Mainiero a very good choice for the super 11. He is a great runner and passer. I have seen his games in person and belive that he will make a big impact this year. Not only does he play hard and preforms well every game, he improves week to week. I’m excited to watch him excell to his full potential. What ever college grabs him, found a gem in the rough. Great player on a not so great team.
-Hey Kev, this is a great list BTW
Rob Lambardo is a shoe-in
what,
out of class C, name a better all around player than Mainiero?
another great player i forgot to list was the RB from mahopac, i think his name is Autera, i saw him at the s1 combine, the kid is scary fast and a workhorse at RB. I see him putting up huge numbers this year behind a nice sized Oline in mahopac
p.s
i am section1 fan54 also i didn’t just copy his post haha. i just thought my post didnt work so i posted it again under TP my other blog alias.
Okay thats easy. Dobbs Ferry’s Devonte Brailsford. Look what he did to Croton’s greatest team in the section championship game 2 years ago as a Freshman. Were you not impressed? Devonte is also an animal on Defense. I’m not saying that Devonte should be super 11 because if he performs the way I think he can I think he should be it next year when hell be a senior. Give it to more seniors this year. Maniero is awesome but he’s just not super 11. I agree with you that he is very underated and that he will be a steal for any college but he hasnt produced well enough to be super 11. However I respect you opinion.
Good Luck to Croton.
How about Justin Segal for harrison. The kids a beast. And CDC. How abotu Justin Autera. i see him having a crazy year.
what,
devonte was 1 of dobbs many weapons in a backfield full of allstate players not to mention an o-line loaded with talent. when a team is trying to game plan against them, they can’t tell their defense to key on 1 perticular player because they had so many weapons like Saunders Higbie and Scat. Dont get me wrong Devonte is a great player who any team in the section would love to have, but i feel Mainiero is a step ahead. He’s a workhorse and has put together a great career thus far with slim pickings for team mates in Croton aside from his sophmore season when they went to sectionals. Both are great players, i just feel Mainiero brings somethings special to the table because of his versatilty and ability to shine at many different postions whereas Brailsford does his work at RB/DL exclusily.
you raised some good points though yourself, i respect your opinion.
Good points. Good luck to both players as I’m sure theyll have the spectacular seasons theyre capable of.
Has Any one heard
on The section 1 ruling on the Tyler Bellia QB ,formaly of Clarkstown North are they going to let him play this season? he looked great @ the Wagner Camp at 6’5 going into his senior year, would be a shame if they dont let this kid play and maybe ruining his chances to get recruited
K. Fagen
you have your work cut out, to find a replacement for John Malone. The only one who I think is in his league, is Kevin Devaney himself. Are you going to have the magazine this year? John did an awesome job on that last year!
Fan,
I agree, John was amazing at what he did. I don’t think you can replace a guy like that. It’s going to take three or four guys do try and do the same job. Matt Spillane is on board, and he is already doing a ton of work. I think he’ll do an awesome job. I have two more people who have volunteered to help, but I’d like to get two or three more. As of right now we are going to try and do the Magazine. Although John did 99% of the content last year, I did the Interview, and 100% of the layout, editing, etc. so the only thing we’ll have to replace is the content. Much easier said then done I believe. If you, or anyone else would like to work on any aspect of the website or Magazine, please feel free to email me.
Collarbone187, Lets have Nieves start D3 before you have him playing at Syracuse. Nieves was a very good program player at Rye, because he wants to continue his studies at Cuse is a very different thing than playing on the team. Because of your statements , people will probably take a shot at Nieves. Hes a D3 player talent-wise.
Tyler Bellia QB Class of 09
Can a QB switch schools in the Same section And play or does he have to sit out for a year before he can play ? What if the circum… were a cyco x girlfreind keying your car and her new friend after you? does this make it an exception? He’s a great Kid from a great Family
COME ON SEC 1 Have a heart
As long as a student athlete lives in the school district,
geographically that student doesn’t have to get a wavier to play football, however politics are always involved. Best of luck. Sometimes section can be diifficult.
I heard that he’s been denied..to bad he could have helped the football and basketball teams
Next year
What school is he looking to transfer to?
he’s looking to go from clarkstown north to clarkstown south
Here’s a name for you Kevin….Sam Loussedes of Arlington HS. He’s a rising junior. Keep an eye on him, he has a great arm is a great competitor.
MY SUPER 11….
1) Rye – Seems like on this blog the whole team are studs n D1 players.
Iona Prep – Everyone’s a star here too
2) Harrison – Same as above. EVERYONE on this team is going to play D1.
3) Lombardo – All seem to agree he’s a shoe in
4) Easterling – If he was at New Ro, he would be best in the section. O yeah, n if he was at Rye or Harrison he would be declaring for the NFL Draft.
5) Williams – Seems like the next great New Ro player
6) Rye’s JV – They NEVER lose a game
7) Harrison’s JV – They NEVER lose
9) Harrison (Again) – Because everyone is that good
10) Rye (Again) – Because they can beat everyone n actually the Patriots turned down the chance to play because they heard how good they are
11) The Bloggers – cause everyone here is better then the next person so let’s honor how great you guys are
This list must first be approved by Rye and Harrison (since they created football), then Kevin Devaney and then the Journal News.
Can’t wait for Football to start in SECTION H/R (Section 1 has official changed its name to Section Harrison/Rye because they are soo great, dominate the area n created the game of football)
Who ever thinks Ryan Rossi should be super 11 is a joke. HE is an undersized center at 185 pounds, maybe if he gained another 40 pounds and nothing less. I remember watching the state title game when he was having trouble with a small NG #48 on forks.
Iona Power
After reading all your posts what amazes me most is I get the impression that Iona Prep has done better than a .500 record in the last 2 years(by far the most overhyped high school football team in Westchester) when in fact they didnt. One would also think that they won the CHSAA A division in Hoops…eeeeeegh… wrong again.
Oh, and stop saying “Iona Prep or New Rochelle” because New Rochelle would beat Iona Prep just as easily as they would beat Rye. Also, I dont recall many D1 Football players recently from Iona Prep as I recall from New Ro.
In summary get over yourself, because I’m not sure a .500 record in CHSAA AA is “competing”. So add yourself to the list of teams that couldnt compete in CHSAA.
Iona Power
ps. If you take away the wins vs. Stepinac(a CHSAA AA team) your record in the last two years is 8-10(4-5 and 4-5) definitly “NOT” competing!
C’mon,
i agree with you that rye fans are really annoying, they are promoting themselves as if they are a sleeper, not the state champions they are. We know you have a goodteam rye fans, so just shut up. Harrison fans probably just get annoyed at all the japping rye fans do, as if this game means everything between the 2 towns. Rye is still hurtin from the whippings they got in the 90’s, so they wannna get as much back as they can. And let me tell you somehthing, in the 4 years they won, rye has never whipped or overmatched harrison. Harrison whipped and overmatched rye in the 90’s. Looking foward to next years game, hope to see the huskies in the brook. Just keep the chatter down.
Go Public
First of all stupid Iona is in the CHSFL AAA not the AA so why don’t you check your facts before you post. Being that yopu are an expert on High School Football then tell me what section 1 team would go undefeated in the CHSFL AAA. All I know is that during teh crimmages that I witnessed last year had St. Anthony smoking New Rochell and North Rockland and Farrell pounding Harrison. Also maybe you were not at the Champions Camp last year and watched Iona and New ROchelle scrimmage-
Go Public -You should indicate what team you support so instead of mouthing off
C’mon Now mad funny and on point. But you forgot about all the dads that come on here and trash those that critique their sons because they have no life.
and the kids who come on here to trash other kids because they have no life because they never play anyway
Does everyone know there was an actual confrontation between rye and don bosco. Rye told them they could take them on. And coach toal said “anytime, anyplace, lets do it” It was on some connecticut station that talks about connecticut high school football. It was a video. does anyone know about it or have a link. It is the reality of how we joke about rye fans.
Yes i know rye and bosco are actually going to scrimmage this year rye will go down to ramsey nj to get ready for the season on sept 2nd.
WR32, I know you’re not talking about me. I was All-Section and play in college. Listen son, know about what you speak before you open your trap.
ok than where do you play?cant be too great if you have got time to talk on high school blogs.
and if you do play in college, you need to grow up and worry about how you perform on the field, rather than high school kids who you wont be playing; so think twice about who has no life
rye scrimmaging bosco, they are going to get murdered, no annhialated. how do they expect to compete with boscos second team. Bosco is twice their size, speed, and skill.
Keith: When will all the numbers be put up on your combine web page?
Hopefully John Malone have some input on the magazine.
He was on the money about so many teams. They didn’t like reading it but the truth is the truth.
How is rye crimmaging bosco?
What was going through dinos head. He cant even compete with don bosco.
Are Rye and Don Bosco really scrimmaging each other because if they are the Rye people really dont understand that you are a great class b football team but you couldnt be new rochelle or iona and the powers of class A and you will be humiliated by Don Bosco There third team will beat ur 1st team
Go Public
Get your facts straight before telling me to get over myself. First of all Iona is in the CHSFL AAA division not the AA like you stated. In case you have a short memory because you seem to be a tool, Kevin Devaney in his final rankings had Iona Prep in the top 5 with his reasoning being the level of competition that Iona plays week in and week out. Last year the easiest two teams that were on their Schedule were Stepinac (Who won the CHSFL AA and had a very good team) and Xaverian (Who won the CHSFL AA the year before). So if you had any clue about football then you would know that Iona has a difficult game every week. Also just for your guide I personally watched St. Anthony manhandle New Rochelle and North Rockland during the labor day scrimmages and Kevin Devaney personally reported that Farrell spanked Harrison at the Mahopac scrimmages. I also know what I saw when Iona scrimmaged New Rochelle during the Champions camp. Both teams competed hard and were on the same level. By the way Iona was looking for a section 1 team to open up against and unfortunately there were no takers except for Connecticut State Champ New Caneen. I am surprised that no one was lining up to play Iona being that they “can’t compete”.
By the way Iona did go to the CHSFL AAA semifinals and lost to St. Anthony 23-20 on their home field. I guess that was not competing.
There are probably one or two rye fans on here who could make an argument for rye to “whip” Don bosco. but these would probabaly have to be the most insane ones.
Devonte Brailsford Super 11
new rochelle was not manhandled by st anthony’s st anthonys scored on 2 busted plays and new rochelle only got 1 drive on offense
C,Mon Now
RYES jv hasnt lost a game are you serious we beet them 2 years in a row on jv
Don bosco>Rye=New england Pats>Duke blue devils
wholleee different level
yea and also Nanuet, they also lost to ossoing and its the first time that harrison lost to them in a while. Harrison’s JV went on undefeated streak from 1998 till 2006 or something like that i heard.
nevermind that harrison streak, they are no good ill probaly start a war here saying harrison was good
F-Ball, it may not be true probally just a rumor but if it is true, it wouldnt matter harrison is going swimming in that brook for a while not matter what anyone says
How is it Patrice Castor from Ramapo doesn’t even get consideration? The Gryphons haven’t been that good lately but ask any coach that plays them who Patrice Castor is.The defensive end has started since his freshmen year and has been one of the best dlinemen in the section.Find any copies of films for the last 2 years and watch # 71 make plays all over the field. He is also one of the top wrestlers in the section as well, and is curently being recruited by UCONN,Temple,Buffalo,.etc.. The kid deserves some consideration.
Predictions for 2008 season:
Harrison and rye will both be good next year. Rye will not even compete against bosco if they put their first team in. Somers will beat harrison in the section 1 class A final in an intense game. Harrison beats rye and then rye wins state title. New Ro trounces North Rockland in class AA final. Tremayne williams doesnt make super 11 and there is an uproar. Dobbs ferry wins Section 1 Class C. Iona goes 7-3 and loses in the championship game to st. anthony’s.
Best team in section 1: iona
Best up and coming talent: Tie between rye and harrison (rye of course, and harrison is loaded with talented sophomores)
Hyped and then dissapoints: Nyack
Sleeper: Nanuet and rye neck
Best player: Maurice easterling
Most over rated: claudio dellicarpini
Sleeper player: Jeremy burnett (harriosn)
Best Private non-catholic team: RCDS
5
St. Anthony had 2 drives and scored both TD’s on long plays. New Rochelle did not get passed mid field on either of their 2 drives. Case Closed. Nothing against New Rochelle who I like and respect but I had to make a point to “Go Public” about the level of teams that Iona plays.
Go Public
Since Iona can’t compete in the CHSFL like you say then tell me what teams in New Rochelle’s league that would beat Iona- White Plains?, Gorton? Lincoln$, Mt. Vernon?
magnet
If Iona gies 7-3 and makes it to the CHSFL AAA I would not have any complaints. But if St. Anthony’s is going to get beat this could be the year as they are replacing a lot of seniors. Unfortunately they just reload – They have sophmores and Juniors that are waiting in the wings that have more talent than anyone in the league- They are a football factory.
That mack kid from Iona is a kid everybody should keep an eye on. btw Darlos isn’t that good.
IONA POWER
You seem to know alot about IONA PREP football who’s
the starting qb. Last saturday @ RYE there seemed to
be alittle controversy at the spot, with playing time!
Who’s in and who’s out!
That alfano kid won’t wow you with his moves or anything, but he has good hands and can get the job done.
my rankings for class A, 1)Somers(for now) 2)Harrison 3)Ossoing, 4)Eastchester, 5)John Jay… after camps it will probbally change
Peter
The competition is between Anthony Gentile who is a senior and Tyrae Woodson who is a Junior. Last year Woodson was slated to be the backup as a sophomore but the coaches decided against it because they did not want a Frosh starting on the JV and Iona had 5 sophomores up on the varsity already. Woodson has big credentials with some people saying that he could be better than Justin Mcghee from New Rochelle. Anthony Gentile started on the Freshman team (Phil Dililio now at Harrison was the backup) and as a sophomore on the JV. Woodson has enormous potential who has made dynamic plays when he has played on the Frosh and JV teams.
My gut tells me that the coaches can’t have Woodson on the bench because he brings awsome potential and could be a dynamic playmaker who makes things happen with his arm and legs. I could see Gentile playing DB which I am sure will not make him happy.
If Woodson is the QB Iona will rely on Jeffrey Mack and Darlos James early on before they play the likes of Farrell, St.Anthony and Chaminade. That first game against New Caneen will be a baptism under fire.
The I
Darlos James needs to have a big year if Iona Prep is to challenge St. Anthony. He had a decent year as a Junior but a lot more is expected. I think Jeffrey Mack has now become the go to guy on offense for Iona.
Iona power.
“some people saying that he(tyrae woodson) could be better than Justin Mcghee from New Rochelle”. That isn’t hard being that Justin Mcgee wasn’t a real qb. I think the proper comparison you are trying to say is johnny McGee. The only person that keeps comparing them is Darlo’s dad.
The I
You are correct I meant the current New Rochelle QB. As far as comparing the two QB’s right now McGee is way ahead because he he taken his team to the Quarters in the state playoffs- Woodson would need to get Iona to at least the semifinals of the CHSFL AAA playoffs plus have a winning record of at least 7-3 or 8-2 to be in the same class as McGhee.
Waiting for combine update,
The Combine results, are, and have been out, since the day after the Player Evaluation Day. Some people have been having trouble accessing them, but that’s because of their pop-up blocker. Go to sorted by Combine Number.
As far as John having input into the Magazine, what made him great was the fact that he saw so much football, including the Spring/Summer Team Camps. With his new job as a security guard, he won’t be able to do that, and that’s why he had to give up what he loved so much. If you go to the Spring/Summer Team Camp Page of the website, you will see that we have done some previews of those Camps, and I think they are pretty good. Let me know what you think after you read them. It really gives fans out there an idea of what to look for if they want to go and watch their team practice.
Magnet,
FYI
Iona is not in sectionn 1.
Iona Power,
Saw Woodson at RYE’S 7 on 7 not real impressed with his
mechanics and delivery, however you can see he has a fresh
pair of legs. I’m not sure if that’s what you want in the spread offense. He might be better suited for the option
which IONA doesn’t run. Gentile has the stronger arm
wouldn’t want to be in head coach’s shoes on picking a starter. A couple of early loses well bring out the nay
sayers!
Look for Greeley to rebound in A this year
Rebound? Why on God’s Green Earth would Greeley rebound? They were horrible last year, simply horrible, and they lost their best player Schaap to a prep school! That, plus Tribou wants out every year, looking to desert his “troops” every chance he gets the last couple of years, what kind of message does that send? No My friend, Horace Greeley is a sinking ship, and like the fraud running the show there, here’s a fraudulent quote “Go West Young Man”.
Mr Fagan i think what waiting for combine result means you can only acsess the sort by PED the other result by 40,by 3 cone doesnt work and becnch doesnt work
Nanuet Is that you Mike?
MR Fagan I notice that last year links work
Franco -Cuts
The Tyler Belia circumstance is as follows: In order to transfer to another school and play a sport, you need a compelling reason (moving in the district, felt threatened at the other school). To date, the Belia family has not given a compelling reason for there son. The only reason for him transferring to South is to play football. The section 1 comittee has already ruled he can not play for South. He has burned the bridges at North. All because his parents think he is a college level QB. Here is a newsflash… he is not that good. In fact, he was the one responsible for North losing to South last year with his silly interceptions at key moments of the game. This kid may not be playing anywhere this year, that would be a shame, but I blame his parents for misguided advice. This is from someone who knows.
justin segal from harrison is a monster and should def make super 11
Iona Power
Sorry,
AAA not AA… WHATEVER
Facts:
You would be 7-10 vs. AAA CHSAA teams(including Xaverian)
My point is your far from the class of the AAA CHSAA league and have had a losing record for the last two years. So pipe down!
Kevin kept you in the top 5 to make himself look good not Iona(he and you are the only people on earth that think you belong there)
Last season JJCR, New Ro and North Rockland would have spanked you! Out of “White Plains?, Gorton? Lincoln$, Mt. Vernon?” which would compete with Iona Prep? none of them since all the so called good players from those didtricts go to Iona Prep(check your roster)
As far as competing with St Anthonys…losing to them by three seems to be your claim to fame…I guess they took you lightly after the first drubbing!
Hey Rebound you may be wrong bout greeley. They had a very tough schedule last year. Lost to NewRo, Gorton, John Jay. Also lost to playoff team Yorktown, seven win Mamaroneck and Scarsdale (actually was a pretty good team).
DKH58
Did you say Scarsdale was actually a pretty good team
last year what games were you watching! They beat Greeley
to start the year, and Greeley was terrible the excitment
didn’t last to long. Maybe Scarsdale and Edgemont should
merge and put one team on the field. I’m hearing both are
struggling for players!
Mr. Fagan
Your web-site is way behind schedule it’s a shame, no
new combine updates as you said two weeks ago would be up
by individual stations, you referenced earlier about reading
scrimmage section of the site what’s new? We can see without Malone you really have your work cut out for you?
Tim
Throw in Briarcliff(struggling for players)
How about we call them Edge-dale-cliff? They could open up against Iona Prep and win and claim to be competeing for supremecy in the CHSAA AAAAAAAA division.
hey Tim
Scarsdale and Edgemont had 3 all state players and five all section players between them. Both teams had over 500 records and were competitive in their classes. Neither one will be too good this yr since they graduated their top guys
Class A,
My rankings for class A
1. somers
2. harrison
3. john jay
4. nyack
5. Ossining
Somers is over-hyped and over rated. Harrison and ossining are better than them. john Jay will stink. Nyack will do ok.
Go Public
You question the integrity of Kevin Devaney for putting Iona in the top 5. The man watches more football in 1 week than you will watch in your lifetime. Why don’t you come out and say what team you support instead of bashing Iona.
If you want to think Iona would get spanked by New Rochelle, North Rockland, and John Jay that is fine because you are entitled to your opinion. All three are great programs plus I am not in the business of bashing teams that Iona does not play.
Maybe someone like Mr. Keith Fagan who sees Iona during the team camps plus many other teams during the season could shed some light on how iona matches up against the better section 1 teams.
MY Rankings for the whole Section for the 2008 Football Season.
#1-Iona Prep ALot of athletes that can play at Various posotions on the field
#2-New Rochelle I debated Rye and New rochelle at this position maybe i will change it after camp well see how it goes but right now it’s New Ro at #2. They lost some key players from last year and i dont feel good enough right now to put them at #1
#3- Somers- Great team with a beast in Rob Lombardo and a Rising Star in Matt Diena. Look for them to take to the next level and win a Section Championship.
#4- Rye-Kevin Face it wether it’s the coaching staff or the players this team belongs on the Big school list no matter what anyone says. It looks like they have another amazing team to be in 2008. And i hate when people say they have only a few kids returning well that doesnt matter because they always have kids waiting in the wings. Remember this most backups on rye could probably start on a lot programs in section 1.
#5- Stepinac- Maurice Easterling , Ryan HunT .. ENough Said!
#6
HarrisonMany athletes that are hungry to get a fresh start from last years terrible season, They only lost two games but that is very bad for the huskies program. They should compete for a championship.#7- Nyack- James Brundage should carry them as a senior leader and they always have great athletes to fill in.
#8- Eastchester- They should continue their success from last season. QB Joey Larocca and the Eagles looked good at the Rye 7 on 7 tourney and are expecting big things from a senior laden team.
#9- Dobbs Ferry- Coach Wagner should lead the eagles to another Class C State Title Game, lets hope they don’t blow it with Brailsford and company.
#10- Nanuet- Good Team with Athletic kids, want to really improve from last season.
sorry #7 Should be ossining …
Class A will be very good. There are no bad teams. Harrison and Somers could be favorites but Fox Lane has some key players coming back as well as John Jay. Ossining will be up there as well

RYE FANS ARE GOING TO HAVE FIELD DAY ON THIS ONE HAHAHHHHHHH
http://www.lohud.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2008806190479
Rye fans are going to have a field day on this ONE HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH THe trash talk has begun…. Sept 27th hes going to hear this one.
I have to give complete respect to Ramalho of rye the kid is an absulute work horse against harison every play it took three guys to get him down he wears out linebackers constantly until they are out the pint of letting him run around them on the other hand look out for players such as triano and ramsey on rye along with burnett for harrison who had a good year last year not playing his real position becuase he did not learn the offnese this kid is a serious sleeper
Sam,
I said on June 9th the complete Combine Results list would be up “by the end of next week”, which is tommorrow (Friday) and they will be. We’ve had results sorted by Combine Number up since Monday June 9th, just not completely sorted, but you can get all the different results if you look. And yes, We have our work cut out trying to continue what John started, because the guy was amazing, and I don’t think there is one guy (except Kevin, but he already has a job or two or three…!) that can replace what he did. So far we have three guys on the case, and they are the ones that have come up with the write-ups about the Rockland, Iona, Block & Tackle, Champion and Admiral Camps. Please don’t diminish the job they have done. Did you read those, I think they are pretty good, what did you think? We still have to confirm/write-up the 1st & 10, Tiger, Valhalla, Winning Edge, Nyack and John Jay Camps, plus any new Camps that we have yet to hear about. Part of the problem about writing up Team Camps is that I sent out a letter to all Section 1 coaches a week ago to confirm if they are having/participating in Camps, and so far only Arlington, Mamaroneck, Suffern and Valhalla (out of 66 or so letters) have responded. So, we don’t even know, for example, if the 1st & 10, Winning Edge, and/or John Jay Camps exist this year. But, once we confirm the existence of any Camp, we’ll have write-ups about what to look for. Would you like to be part of the solution and help out?
Iona Power,
We at New Rochelle have nothing but tremendous respect for Coach Quirolo and the entire Iona staff, players and program. Regardless of their record the last couple years (records can be deceiving), and regardless of who they play, the team is always prepared. They would do well against whoever they played. You also can’t fault any Section 1 team that doesn’t play them, because most (all?) teams are locked into their full schedules by the “powers that be”, and don’t have an open date to play. I know Coach D always welcomes an opportunity to play that game, it just hasn’t been possible the last few years with the success both programs have enjoyed.
Political Man
Interesting list- I would think that Carmel, North Rockland, John Jay East Fishkill, and Mount St. Michael will be vying for top 1o honors.
Jeremy burnett is a serious sleeper. He is one of the best players in section 1 and he wasnt even playing his position, RB, cause he didnt know the offense. He is 6’0 195 and plays Rb, Lb and runs a 4.5 flat. This kid will have a monster year along with segal, CDC, Qb phil dillulio, and a good harrison line.
Keith Fagan
You are correct about section 1 teams having limited ability to play non league games. It is a shame that the powers to be do not look at traditional games and incorporate them into the schedule- Monrow Woodbury had wanted to play but section 9 set the same limits on them as section 1.
Good luck to New Rochelle this year.
retro i agree with you completely and its funny you mention dilulio look for him to put up good numbers he runs the offnese beautifully
Yes, look for harrison to surprise everyone and beat somers as well as rye they have the players to do it.
Politcal Man
I like your pick of Eastchester at #7 your mistaken about
a senior laden team. There are only 4 starting seniors
on the team the rest are Jrs and a Soph. All of the returning players have had alot of game experience from last
year. The eagles will be in contention to win the section!

We are looking foward to scrimmaging bosco and whipping them all over their own field.
First off, I feel the list that has been picked here is to my suprise an educated list. SEction 1 finals prediction: New Rochelle Vs. Clarkstown South. The same as last years magazine.
My Super 11
Maurice Easterling DB, Stepinac
James Brundage RB, Ossining
Rob Lombardo FB, Somers
Darlos James, WR, Iona Prep
Kyle Ramalho, DL, Rye
Ian Solomon, OL, New Rochelle
Sir Aaron Taylor QB, Lincoln Hall
Nick Saglimbeni LB, Clarkstown South
Robert Pope DE, Mount Vernon
Justin Autera, RB, Mahopac
Ryan Hunt LB, Archbishop Stepinac
Section 1 coach,
That is a less than proffesional list. Aaron taylor, justin autera, nick saglimbeni???
You’d pick them over say, tremayne williams, justin segal, and devonte crailsford.
Jeremy burnett of harrison is better than half the players on section 1 coaches list. So is tremayne williams, devonte brailsford, and ryan schermerhorn.
Chris Alfano
Maurice Easterling
Darlos James
Ian Solomon
Ryan Shermerhorn
Justin Segal
Devonte Brailsford
Justin Autera
Rob Lombardo
Kyle Ramalho
Tremayne Williams
Any comments? Just my opinion.
I am so anxious to see Jeremy Burnett this year. I know nothing about him other than that he played a little bit last year and that he is hyped up to be awesome. I’d love to put him on the list but unfortunately he hasnt done much of anything so far to earn a spot. Super 11 is nice but the real accomplishments are made in the season. If he is as good as everyone says he is, which I hope he is, Hell have a monster year. Good Luck to him.
Jeremy burnett wil be an all-star and a huge boost to harrison athletically.
My super 11, what has segal done ? and darlos ?
IN super 11 each player gets one position either their offense or defiensive position. The athletes on my list have showed they can do the job at the position i apointed to them to a higher standard then the rest of the competition. They each showed last year in the season they could do the job. Their combine numbers are also a factor. As well as what i hear from the coachs of the different teams and their inputs.
The I,
Segal has been a defensive force at linebacker the last two years. His sophmore year he was amazing and an extremely hard hitter. He has great size and should be awesome on defense this year, well see if his offense will also be.
I supposed I get wrapped up in the Darlos talk because he hasnt show much I just know of what hes capable of. Who would you put in for those two spots?
Thanks for the input
If I were to take someone out and put them in, Id put in Maniero from Croton. Hes very underated.
kyle ramalho
rob lombardo
tremayne williams
chris alfano
ian soloman
ryan schermerhorn
james brundage
maurice easterling
robert pope
pat ocallaghan
matt deiana
2 other kids that deserve to be in this conversation are dylan haas from somers and rj medeo from byram hills
Just for the record, Section 1 Coach has filled out http://www.Section1Recruiting.Com as his “website”, so that when you scroll on his screen name that’s what it shows. Section 1 Coach is NOT affiliated with Section1Recruiting.Com in ANY way, shape or form.
section 1 coach,
your saying Sir Aaron taylor is the best QB in the section…
I was having trouble with the quarterback choice. Who would you go with in that situation? Taylor is skilled.
keeep in mind on my list, diverse positions are key.
1st n 10
I think that Tyler Belia circumstance’s Have met the requirements in order to transfer to another school.HE has a compelling reason (felt threatened at the HIS school). Its a shame the section 1 comittee has already ruled he can not play for south And that He has burned His bridges at North. He’s just a kid who okay maybe made a mistake, I feel he’s a great talent, He look great @ Wagner Camp, And Play at the Next level in college
rye could beat the nfl pro bowl team.
is jeremy burnett the younger brother of the burnett who played qurterback in 2004 when nyack beat them. That burnett was fast? if im not mistaked i thought his name was jeremey
with regards to burnett i would agree that he is the most complete football player on the huskys hopefully(maybe not lol)he learned to pick up the ball after it touches your foot on a punt.as far as the GAME goes being a diehard garnet married to a husky as i always say its a td either way this game will always be played on the field just ask the 93 garnets or the 96 hushys we are so fortunite to have this game so all this bs is well bs
IN my oponion the super 11 is a joke. Guys like Jordan Eck, Archibald, Bonsall, Falasca havent made and they are were far more qualified for it.
I heard Rye is going to scrimmage Florida State, Miami and USC. Rye rules and can play with anyone
Rye only could beat half of the AA teams
The I, Segal has been one of the top 5 linebackers in the section since he was a spohmore, also he has been running the ball like a animal at FB sharing time with guys like Falasca and AJ Bonistall. Falasca at West Point right now playing football and Aj playing lacrosse at the college level, segal is a incridable athelte he deserves to be in the super 11
Jax, your talking about jeremy burton, he play quarterback for the huskies, that game against nyack they were robbed, bad call on a onsides kick… jeremy burnett is a whole different person than jeremy burton.
Are There Any Juniors Who Made The all State Teams Last Year and who are They?
Franco’s 624-CUTS
Tyler Belia sounds like a real tough kid(lol) changing schools because of a physco ex-girlfriend??? Yeah, thats the type of mentally tough competitor I want leading my football team. Maybe you should get the ex-girlfriend to come over and play on the D-Line next to Sagz.
What bridges did he burn at North?? Other than getting his lunch money taken away by a girl?
sec1,
I’m assuming you mean from Section 1? Off of my website, here is the list of the 4 JR’s that made All-State in 2007:
2007 Class A
2nd Team Defense
DL Rob Lombardo JR Somers
3rd Team Offense
RB James Brundage JR Ossining
2007 Class B
2nd Team Offense
OL Matt Bonomolo JR Nanuet
RB Kyle Ramalho JR Rye
And 1 Sophomore:
2007 Class C
3rd Team Defense
DL Devonte Brailsford SO Dobbs Ferry
Thank you Mr.Fagan,
Do You Have Any Insight on these players and how there Teams will do?
rye fans,
You might have a decent team this upcoming season but if you play bosco you won’t just lose you will get hurt. They are too big, strong, fast and have too much depth and will trounce you guys. You do not want to lose guys to injury just because you think you can stay within 4 tds of bosco. All I can say is that you were warned in advance. Mammaroneck tried it in baseball and got smacked 7-0 it won’t be that close in football “Mans got to know his limitations”
Hey how come theres no love for spring valley? they may not have the best team but they have some of the top athletes including a TE/WR whos over 6’2’’ n has hands to match the height and 2 returning running backs one ran for over 800 yards the other whos only a soph but runs like a complete animal
(1)Horace Greely
(2)Nyack
(3)Harrison
(4)Somers
(5)Walter Panas
Sec1,
Not my thing, I just worry about how New Rochelle is going do to. But, there are people who write for the website that will be writing about all those players and teams.
Greely and Panas? Did you pick the teams out of hat?
The I –
I hope you not one those kids trying to cause divison at IONA
It is a family over there, and they route for each other.
If you a kid good luck and stay off the blogs and go do it.
Darlos for Iona Prep started with a very promising season last year and had a very bad high ankle sprain. But no excuses.
He is a two way star. DB/RB/WR and Iona Prep will have loaded squad this year.
Michael Dunkley is name you will here, Jordan Bronner is a great player. LJ, Morris Hylton, Chris Alfano, in no particular order. And have you heard of Sidney Weston, the super Sophmore LB/RB tranfering, you will next week!!!
He will add depth to those positions. And all those kids will get the opportunity to play at the next level.
Iona is a family. And they play as a team.
The Mack kid is a great slashing style runner. Darlos is more speed, knowledge and power, Sidney will bring (baby Ray Rice in mind) but he bigger as a sophmore. Dunckley great athlete, great kid, great football player. and from watching them they will not be selfish- will they THE I?
This will in no doubt be the greatest skill players this area has seen in a long time. and they will compliment each other very well.
Darlos is running 4.5 forty and 4.0 in the shuttle. offers are coming. Tyrae 4.5 , Bronner 4.5 Mack 4.5, Dunkley 4.6, Alfano 4.6, Sidney WEston 4.6 , 5’9, 190lbs of muscle,
equals power, speed and knowledge of the game. wins!
Go Iona!
yea how can players like falasca and eck not make it. Im sure that jordan eck deserved it more thn noel sanchez. Im sure falasca deserved it more than half the kids who made it in 2006. As for other comments. Here are my predictions
1. spring valley is horribly coached every year and has talent, but no depth. But will have an OK year.
2. Harrison will beat rye in 2008 if troilo does his duty, they have more talent.
3. Iona will lose to st. anthony’s in the semi-final of the AAA catholic league
4. Nyack dissapoints and is about the same as last year, sub-par for their program.
5. New Ro wins section 1 AA
6. RCD is best non-catholic private school team in the area and gains some recognition as a rising program.
7.Tremayne williams makes the super 11, but then so does pat o’callaghan and then we know the super 11 is a joke.
8. Port chester wins one game.
9. Dobbs ferry heads to the dome yet again, but loses
10. haldane has a decent year
11. Harrison beats somers in week 1
12. Harrison does not win section 1 class a
13. Lombardo goes D 1-AA
By the way how is the iona line looking, whos gonna play QB.
STEPINAC!!!
Suffern Fan
He is going to play basketball next year barring any injury or extreme change of heart.
Here is how the seasons will go down.
1)Iona will go .500 with no real stud behind center.
2)Somers wins class A.
3) Kyle Ramalho rushes for 1000 yards and carries rye to the state semi-finals.
3) Ian soloman makes the super 11.
4) Harrison some how finds a way to lose rye.
5) Horace greely goes .500.
6) Yorktown is a top contender in class A.
7) John Jay cross river doesn’t even make the Class A playoffs.
9) Harrison’s Burnett doesn’t rush for more than 500 yards.
10) CDC has an amazing first half of the season…. 7 td’s
11) Mahopac is in the hunt for the sectional title.
12) Iona’s alfano comes no where close to putting up the numbers he did last season. Darlos is force to play one way because the Iona coaching staff realizes that he can’t run the ball. Mack leads the team in carries.
13) Tremayne Williams is a all state player.
14) There will be at least 8 D1 players coming out of the section 1 class of 2009.
section 1 coach,
i agree with you that sir aaron is a great ATH, but at the position of QB for a senior, id go with Mainiero from Croton over Sir.
The I
I think you might be proven wrong this year about Iona Prep. You seem to be selling Alfano short because he did have a big time year last year. The only way he does not put up big numbers is if whoever starts at QB flops. I think if they start Woodson he will get better as the season goes on and they should be about 6-3 going into the CHSFL AAA playoffs. It will help Iona this year that they do not see St. Joseph by the Sea form Staten Island(Very physical and Nasty team) and Mount St. Michael (Capable of beating Iona even though Iona would probably win). But teh schedule is still tough as they have some great programs to play in St. Anthony, Farrell, Chaminade, New Canneen, and Holy Trinity from Long Island.
Its clear that “the I” is a somers fan, and the GIG is a harrison fan. All your arguments will be settled in week 1, so relax. In regards to Ionapowers comment. It is a good thing they arent playing st. joseph by the sea. This year it was a great game, I was there. I beleive the score was 34-28 in favor of St. joseph by the sea. They scored on a last minute Td. I dont know if theyll have the line to play with that team this year. By the way how is the line looking for iona next year. They’ll have a good team though next year.
Wow
The I, it is clear you want harrison to lose every game on their schedule. Somers has been in harrisons shadow for as long as i can remember, i hope it stays that way come week 1 next season. Maybe you think Somers can become the new “harrison” in section 1 class A, which they wont. When the huskies come to rip you apart, you’ll remember that your somers, and we are harrison. And you obvioulsy dont know anything about jeremy burnett, where hes from, what hes capable of, and what he’ll do this season
I’m not a Somers fan at all. In my eyes there just the best team in Class A player and coaching wise.
The I, I know you are a somers fan, every single one of your comments talks about how great somers is. Somers is nothing to harrison.
Every one of my comments talks about somers ? Where are you looking? all most all of my comments have been about iona.
Falasca was the best Harrison player to come out in the past few years and he didn’t hype himself up like the recent group of Huskies do, ala Denti (from stud to dud). I remember some rumbling about Burnett last spring being a transfer from Florida then nothing. CDC a great track athlete and very hyped the past 3 season and is made of glass. After his week 2 shoulder injury against Spring Valley he wasn’t the same the rest of the season. I suspcet Lombardo will be looking to put a helmet on that shoulder a few times early!!
Good luck against Port Chester and Saunders and enjoy your bye cupcakes!! RYE is foaming at the mouth and will looking out for any elbows flying their way!!!
You clearly want harrison to lose. Thats all i know. You also said in a comment above burnett will rush for less than 500 yards. Do you even know who jeremy burnett is? He is just as good, if not better all-around football player than deaina
How many times is he going to touch the ball this season with segal and CDC ?
na deiana blows away burnett and hes a year younger
I will speak for Dogs here.
Burnett will get the ball alot. he is a RB. Segal is a FB. and CDC is a wide receiver. He is a very talented offensive and defensive player. hes got speed, size (something deaina doesnt have), and intelligence on the field. Also behind a skilled harrison line which includes mike protano 6’0 265 who is an all county wrestler, Rob jones 6’0 260, duke alvora 6’0 220 who is going to be a sophmore and future star. Danny Lauro 5’11 220, a solid, quick defensive linemen. Plus two up and coming Jv linemen to rotate in 6’3 260 pd. mark caliguiri and 6’1 265 pd. jason brown. Plus QB phil dillulio 6’0 190 is ready to run the show. Look for harrison to come back after last seasons dissapointing end and compete to win class A.
Also, look out for tanner knox. A 5’7 185 pd. sophomore Rb who is very fast. He will contribute next season.
As chill said,
Harrison brings back a formidable team. They have the perfect blend of young and experienced talent. Somers has no one besides lombardo and deaina.
dogs,
dylan haas
Dylan haas really isnt that great. But somers will be as good as harrison. It will be a great game. Im almost anticipating it as much as the Rye-harrison game. But the atmosphere, not just at the rye-harrison, but in both towns the whole day is ecstatic. Its a special day.
PORT CHESTER ‘08 BABY!!
JK….we suck
Mike Braithwaite TE/WR Raffi Sarajian RB/LB Reggie Allonce RB/Cb (allonce was the kid who hurt carpini in the valley game)
back up college,
Remember This kid is only 16 take it easy on him.
dogs,
Look at somers coach. Enough said.
Look at harrison coach. I have to say though dematteo and troilo are the two best coaches in the area. With Dino Garr coming up they better watch out though. i beleive on some list they ranked numbers 1 and 2 as the best coaches in the area. Troilo and Dematteo are great.
Kenny G.
When spring valley gets some coaching and discipline, then talk about them. I watched Harrison absolutely domiante spring valley last season. the score was 26-8, but it could have been much worse. Spring valley could be on the rise though.
I’ll give troilo top 5 respect. And Dematteo top 3.
1) Coach Dematteo
2) Coach Cass
3) Coach DiRenzio
4) Coach Jimmy clark
5) Coach Troilo/ Dino Garr
wow I put coach clark before Troilo and Garr. Troilo and Garr belong to the number 4) spot.
Garr Should be #3
Political Man so then where do you put Coach DiRienzo? Not under Garr! And why in the heck is Cass there, he hasn’t “coached” in 10 years. His assistants (who have been with him for 20) do everything. If you look at all-time wins, Coach Dematteo has 264, Coach Cass has 238 and Coach Garr has 224. So if you go by wins, those are your top three. I’m pretty sure Coach Connolly from Edgemont is around 150, and I think Coach Dirienzo has around 125, which is probably the top 5 guys in this area, wins wise. But, is that the top guys today coaching wise? I think it’s Coach Dematteo, no one does more with less, then Coach Dirienzo, have they had more than 2 losses in any one year the last 10? The Coach Clark, instant winner when he got there, and they haven’t had a bad year in 5. The Coach Garr, he’s got that program rockin at Rye the last 10 years, and then Coach Ricci, because from what I hear Ossining was good when he was an assistant there, and now that he’s been back they’ve been awesome. My best of the rest, in no particular order are: Coach Cass, Coach Costellano, Coach Walsh, Coach Caya, and Coach Triolo. What does everyone else think?
pretty sure troilo has the most wins all time right now of any ones coaching. I think if he had been coming off another 9-2, 10-1 season. He’s rank number 1 or 2. Look at his career, not his most recent season.
I know their not well coached im just sayin watch those 3 kids they do have some athletes
Kenny G.
Spring Valley has a long way to go. Its not like that program has never done well. 4 years ago they became very close to beating nyack and harrison and won 7 games. Give them time, they’ll improve. But they are a while away from returning to Class A glory.
ok 1st to the list. Easterling from stepinac is good ill give him that but seriously how old is he?
and on to the ppl that should be on the list. you say that you are looking for linemen to so how were DT Wayne Seton who has a sub 4.6 40 and the quickest 1st step in the leauge overlooked, also all leauge OT/DT Jon Anunziata, and OLB Chris Moffa a varsity starting LB since he was a sophomore who has led his team in int. in the past. all three players are from Fordham Prep. LoHud catholic football is more than stepinac and iona this year and fordham prep football was not only calvin mccoy last year and these 3 players al least deserve to be in the hunt
Basically Coach Cass is a figure head. But he is still the Head coach so every time North rock wins it goes underneath his belt.
Too many players on this list kevin. It looks like you put every good player in section 1. But choices are good. The schools with the most legitimant candidates are harrison, iona, and new ro. Harrison has segal, CDC, and burnett wil be a serious contender. Iona has darlos james, chris alfano, and mack. New Ro has mcghee, tremayne W, and solomon.
Ryan Hunt from Stepinac should be more then just in the hunt. the player made CHSFL All League, All County, and All State as a junior. He led the whole CHSFL in tackles for most of the year and finished 3rd in the league and 15th in the state with 113. His name might not be known by everyone especially the public schools, but the kid is looking at D1 AA schools such as Dartmouth, UPenn, Villanova, etc. Give him so credit
not taking anything away from the coach’s that were mentioned, but so many of their wins are against terrible competition. new ro, harrison, rye, can pretty much write down 5-6 wins on their schedule every year before it even begins – similar to mt. vernon in basketball. again, not taking anything away but the leagues that these teams play in are not good – period.
p.s. dematteo is awesome #1 pick….and what about the coaching staff at stepinac / iona / mount (not sure if you want to cont in a bronx team?
Harrison is coming for you!
DM50,
Jeremy burnett did have a good year at TE, DE, But next year hell play RB, LB now that he knows the offense, he will be studly. Him along with segal, CDC, and a good harrison line should carry the huskies.
684 rest stop guy I would but where do I find him? the football office, home retired, the football office, home retired….if he would make up his mind, then maybe. until then, when he asks his players to trust him, how do they know he’ll be there. and not about to quit. It’s tough to play with the emotions of kids like that and expect loyalty back. I guess that’s why their best player Schaap finally had enough and left for greener pastures…
SCHEDULING your logic doesn’t make any sense. EVERYONE has the same schedule, so why are just those teams great? Look at the other teams in the leagues of the teams you mentioned. Why don’t they win like those teams? Coaching, and that’s why those guys get the credit they deserve.
Class A rankings:
1. Somers
2. Nyack
3. Harrison
4. ossining
5. eastchester
all the other classes, the winner is obvious.
rebound…
new rochelle is loaded with football talent and yes i think coach d is a good coach….but everyone knows that they can mark down a win vs. gorton, roosevelt, saunders, and lincoln…so they are 4-0 already in the summer – what other solid teams do they play – and i am asking that honestly? – that’s my point. new ro can show up without any coaches those days and still win! and again i clearly stated i think all of those coach’s are good, but let’s keep things in serious perspective – westchester county footbal (in the grand scheme of things) is not good – just my opinion…and my point about scheduling is that it is so predictable who is going to win, and it’s not b/c of the coaching but rather the talent. it’s a shame that a team like new ro does not play iona prep – would be a great game for the schools and community – just like stepinac / w.plains. there is a lot of meaningless and very easy wins on a lot of coach’s schedule…...i am not saying this in a disrespectful way – just being realistic and honest!
who does everyone think are the top 5 players in eaach class?
Rebound
He is there right now.Why don’t you make yourself known to him.You seem quite confident about your abilities. Jacob Schaap left for academic reasons.
You are making comment with no information.JJCR and Greeley are the hardest places in SEC 1 to coach
SCHEDULING you’re joking right? You think that New Ro has more talent than Mt. Vernon? Your NUTS!!! You think New Ro has more talent than Gorton? Your NUTS!! Year in and Year out Mt. Vernon Football has more pure talent than any other school in Section 1. And they neven win. Why? Coaching. Your a fool if you think that New Ro can just “show up” and win. The reason why they are so good is because of coaching. According to you, New Ro would win pretty much every game if Coach Dirienzo left for say, the next two years, right? Well, look it up, he did that in the mid 90’s and they were horrible for those two years. He came back and they dominated agian. Why? Coaching! I agree with you that there are good teams and bad teams in Section 1.. But the point your not understanding is that the good teams are the ones with coaching, the bad teams are the ones without coaching! The reason why New Ro can pencil in 5 to 6 wins is because of the bad coaching. Take roosevelt for example. You and I agree that New Ro can pencil that in as a win every year. Was that true when Coach Dematteo was coaching there? No! Why? Coaching!!! Same effing kids, same effing school, different coaches. It’s that simple. The REASON certain schools pencil in certain amount of wins every year is because of the coaches they have to go agianst, not the schools!
684 rest stop guy like I said I would, but he’d just quit the fight before it got started, or at least threaten to quit the fight, until someone begged him to come fight, because that’s his MO the last few years. Why are you defending a quitter, or a schitzo?
Your right Easterling is a beast. Just to set the record straight, he is 17 years old just like many other players in section one & the CHSFL.
Any one know who is playing quarterback/wingback/outside lbs(spurs) for dobbs ferry?
John Jay EF will be in strong contention they have a lot of starters coming back and a great coach in Coach Walsh
section 1 fan,
I agree with u about JJEF..i saw them play south twice last year and in the first game they dominated..they are some big boys and they are extremely well coached..is the kid #88 coming back..i remember he was a good player.
very true about mount vernon, they always have the best athletes but can never put it together.
rebound is right.
Rebound
Better look at the facts.Lou Direnzo quit on New Ro(pace)Academic ineligibility. Tony DeMatteo quit on Roosevelt(somers)His boys could have played in yonkers. Many of his players were out of the Roosevelt district lines . John Casstellano quit on Nyack(scarsdale)Scarsdale screwed up the insurance part of the contract,He even started practice there. Dino Garr quit on Rye (westlake 80’s)Actually he was driven out by not beating Harrison enough.Tribo never made the move and stayed at Greely. He never Quit ! Get your facts straight.
Coach Louis DiRenzo is the HARDEST working coach in section 1. The torch has been passed on from the old school
guys to Louie D. I happened to be at a pop warner dinner
were Tony D actually told the audience with out hesitation that Louie D. was the best coach in section 1. He worked very hard to have the success he has for so long and it couldn’t have happened to a greater guy. His kids not
only are coached properly but learn lifes lessons from his him as well.
Lou DiRienzo didnt quit on New Rochelle he left because he was having problems with the school…so get your facts straight
JJEF played south when south was 3-0 and JJEF was 1-2 so South thought they had it wrapped up. IN the PLayoffs South Dominated.
Hey HellBound,
Do you even know me? One of my asst. coaches told me about this Bovine Scat again. It is none of your business what I do.For you to comment on the hardest job in any school district is not fair! You don’t know anything about the situation at Greeley. There are many great coaches out there that have been coaching a long time with a losing record. It is all about the hand you are dealt.Just like a deck of cards. If you don’t have right combination of players, asst. coaches, admin/facilities,schedule, and parental support nothing goes well.
Hellbound——Do not hide like a gutless ,dope smokin, flag burnin, punk.I doubt you have ever been between the lines? I just had my hip replaced but I am fit(not as good as I once was but good once as I ever was)....Here is my school phone number 914 861 9435 ext 233,The web adresses are up top.I will be happy to meet with you..Better yet cmon up to The Greeley Advanced Skills Camp.We will be there the 26th to the 30th 2 aday 9:30- 11:30+++1:30- 3:30.
... Kevin/Kieth——
Can you control these guys? You guys are welcome to come up to Camp as well.Kieth please give my regards to Lou—I will not be at Block and Tackle this year because of our Camp.the i, you sound a little crazy
darlos cant run the ball, he can run ball
go to http://www.youtube.com/darlos5
i think he can run the ball if he wants to.
next year,
yes #88 mike belluzzi will be back for JJEF next year
BigBrownViking’s,
JJEF’s quarterback threw 4 TD’s and ran for a TD in the first game against clarkstown south, then the second game in the playoffs he broke his throwing hand the week before
Coach Tribou,
Don’t lower yourself to these idiots! Keep up the good
work! God luck in class A this year.
Yea darlos can run the ball right ? You put gave me a link of him when he played on freshman. Enough said.
I know he’s only a junior, but I think Reggie Allonce from Spring Valley is going to be a D-1 prospect. Any thoughts?
rebound…
just for the simple fact that you think gorton and mt. vernon have the same amount of talent just goes to show how ridiculous you are. and again, i clearly stated that coach d is a good coach but he has been blessed with a lot of talent – period! the years he wasn’t there and they were not good was because of the talent – give me a break. i brought up the comparison to mt. vernon basketball…same theory applies – the mvernon bball team can show up to half, yes half of there games without their coach and still win – and guess what, they would probably win by 50 instead of 30! this doesn’t mean any disrespect to the coaching staff b/c i think the coaching staff is good. but please let’s not get crazy here – any honest coach without an inflated ego will tell you the team will only be as good as the talent they have…then they need to be coached up! let me give another example…the coach at iona prep…do you really think that the harrison / new ro / rye / coach’s are better??? it is all relative to the schedule you play which goes back to my original point. if rye or harrison played in the same league as iona they would not even compete and would lose every game…and new ro would be a 500 team. you are only as good as the competition you play – period. so again let’s not go as far as saying that gorton and mt vernon have as much football talent as new ro – that’s insane!
p.s. i am the biggest dematteo fan and i would rate him #1 – hands down….....but now that you bring him up…...he leads in total wins yes and also at 5 year seniors when he was at roosevet – look it up and ask around…do your homework!
Iona is with out a doubt the team to beat in all of Section 1. They have versatile players like Jeffrey Mack, Chris Alfano, Morris Hilton, Mike Dunkley, and obviously Darlos James. They have Anthony Gentile whos completed over 20 touchdown passes to Alfano between Freshman and JV year and should win the spot over competitor Ryan Rossi. They also have blockers like George Apostolopoulos and Nicholas Biagioni who both will possibly go both ways. Nicholas Biagioni might be one of the most underrated players in Section 1 and could be a consideration for Super 11. Hes a mean 230 pound guard thats moves faster then some of the recievers and running backs on Iona’s screen plays and produces a lot of key blocks and pancakes on their touchdowns. He is the only returning start from an o-line who has 2 players in the NCAA. Keep an eye out for him and George Apostolopoulos on both sides of the line during both Iona and New Rochelle Camp.
to add to what i just wrote 5 seconds ago also watch out for Iona’s Jordan Bonner to have a big year if he decides to play he is a visible and high jumping target…
Rebound? When you say talent do you mean the ability to run and jump? Football talent and athletic talent are two very different things. Just because someone can run a fast 40 means little in terms of football skills. The NewRo kids have bought into the program that Dilorenzo has implemented. Coach Wright has also done a great job of building up that once less than average program.
684- Some harsh words for a man that doesnt put their name on the post. All of the coaches that you mentioned have touched more lives in 10 minutes of their day than most have in their lives and when you get in the point of your life professionally and personally , you should be able to make a decision like they have with little static. These coaches have done more than enough to make a financial/ family move without any comments. I know that you were trying to give coach Tribou his props, but there is a better way to do it
He looks good billy…
http://springvalleyfootball.com/video/?id=98BDFBDABCBA00556F261EF854C971C3
That spring valley kid is pretty damn good.
Rileygirl you are making my point for me. Yes, Coach Wright has done a fine job. But, the reason he can’t beat New Ro every year is not because he has inferior talent, but because he has inferior coaching/coaches. SCHEDULING’s point was that the reason New Ro wins every year is because they have supurior talent, and the reason they can pencil in 5 or 6 wins every year is because their talent is so much better than everyone else’s. I said horse hockey, the reason they win is because the talent they do have is coached the best. SCHEDULING, let me ask you this. If New Ro and Mt. Vernon switched coaching staff’s, what team wins?
REBOUND…
FOR THE SIMPLE FACT THAT YOU ARE GETTING PERSONAL JUST EXPLAINS WHAT TYPE OF PERSON YOU ARE. okay so let me put it simple….westchester county SECTION 1 football sucks! i can’t believe that you think a class b team that one the states can win games in the chsfl aaa….what a joke….harrison and rye would get blown out by stepinac / mount / iona…and that’s that – if you don’t think so you obviously do not know what you are talking about. new ro is the only football program that keeps westchester football credible – just like mount vernon in basketball. do yourself a favor get out there and watch other teams play other then section 1! class b states – are you serious…not taking anything away but i can’t believe you think that rye or harrison would win a game in the aaa….ask coach d how many games they would win in the chsfl aaa – and then ask him why they don’t play iona – there city rival!!! and no excuses either.
so what you are saying that if coach d was at mount vernon and coach wright was at new rochelle….mount vernon would win – are you really serious? i saw mvernon play gorton last year, – gorton was terrible – and it was a good game….what is the world (westchester county) coming to!!!
i saw new ro play – way more talented then gorton and mvernon…..mvernon and gorton sucked – i hate to say it that way but it is the truth! i can’t believe you think that gorton and mvernon have so many talented football players – who are they and where are they from and what colleges do they go and play for….ooh or are you going to say it’s the coaches fault!
p.s. how about you have mvernon coached by dematteo / wright / coach d…and have new ro coached by themselves….new ro wins by at least 2-3 touchdowns!
I could almost guarantee a win from harrison or rye over stepinac
Many years ago Stepinac , Iona, Mount Vernon , New Rochelle & White Plains played in there own leagues but also played in the big 5 in football & basketball. I am not sure why it ended .
Now because of state playoffs, section 1 cannot schedule any games like that unless they have a bye week in schedule. CHSFL gave teams two bye weeks this year at the begining of schedule so teams can schedule out of league games & other rivals. But the weeks must matchup. I do not think any section 1 team had a bye in week 1 or 2 to enable any of these matchups. So no Section one team was ducking Iona ! Conn does not start games till week 2 of NY schedule. So finding games this year was not an easy task. Iona will take on New Cannaan. New Canaan was one of the Conn State champions last year & have a great program. It will be a scrimmage for new Cannan but a game for Iona. Should be a good one.
The top programs in section 1 have grassroot foundations. MV hoops does not start in Sept. of the kids freshman year,New Ro, Somers,Harrison… kids train all year for football. In the weight room, track, watching film and 7 on 7s.The CHSAA AAA is a very strong league. St Anthonys is a national program that is routinely in the top 30 in the nation. A big reason for the success at St Anthonys is they have great athletes, but as Coach Tribou said they also have the backing of the parents , administration and the kids make it a year round sport. Yeah they play lax or other sports but these kids are constantly enhancing their football skills. Mount is an example of a team with TREMENDOUS coaching and talent but because of the fact that many of the kids live all over the city and Westchester, the coaches dont get kids at the track 4 times a week over the summer.
NewRo would never duck Iona. Iona has had a nice run the past 3ish years, but over the past 10 years NewRo probably wins 8 of these games.
Scheduling
if you asked dirienzo why he doesnt play iona he would say that he is not allowed to play more than 10 games unless involved in the state tournament. New Rochelle is in the state tournament every year and do not have any byes.
the I
that was link of Darlos when he a Freshman starting on Varsity

rr
you ARE right Nicki is a beast – Iona has the greatest line coach in Section COACH PETRILLO, Him and Coach D of New Rochelle are really good with line.
the i
and Darlos is going to college of CB not a RB, but he will play wr, to stay healthy. he is a athlete. you will see how versatile he is.
Tyrae Woodson will the QB to watch this year, Mack will be super so will Sidney Weston super sophmore from MV
Dunkley will be super, Hylton will crack some helmets.
big Goerge is Div 1 te/de, and Chris Alfano will catch for another 1,000yds,
Iona will score on every position. 50 a game.
Thanks Coach Vic and Coach Felix
the I
and on that video ,one of the kids, he puts the move on is at PENN State as a Sophmore, Maurice Evans. that varsity game 2005
Iona camp tomorrow the best of the best are going to be there.
If your son was offered a football scholarship by these five schools that I’ve listed below, which one would you want him to attend and why?
1. Penn State
2. Rutgers
3. Boston College
4. UConn
5. Syracuse
I’d go with BC. Great academics and plus the move to the ACC. However, the ACC has been down as of late, but will be back soon. The mixture of academics and good football make BC an attractive school.
i think the whole iona prep football team is going to the nfl
well see Saturday and Sunday if they are as good as the hype.
billy barty, penn state all the way would be my pick, to play in that big ten confrence and to play in that stadium is a honor. not to mention to play for JOE PATERNO!. its a no brainer for me.
SCHEDULING, harrison would not lose everygame in the same league as iona, they wouldnt win everygame like in A but i wouldnt count them as losing everygame in ionas league.
trolio is the best coach in westchester, look at his records, this past year is the first year harrison had more than 2 loses in a long time. He probally has less than 15 loses in his carrer in coaching, Dino Garr probbaly lost more than 15 times to harrison alone. No doubt dino outcoached him the past few years but he does not deserve to be ranked ahead of him in coaching.
Class A Fan,
Can’t go wrong with Penn State. Great academics as well and playing in front of 100k every other Saturday…wow! If I had to list a top 5 out of those schools, it would look like this.
1. BC
2. Penn State
3. Syracuse
4. UConn
5. Rutgers
How about you, Class A Fan?
If i had to make a list from those schools, it would def start out with 1)Penn State, 2)UConn, 3)BC, 4)Rutgers, 5)Cuse- My reasoning for UConn above BC is that BC is on its down fall and UConn is on its rise in the Big East. Rutgers would be my fourth choice since i really dont see them doing anything anymore since Ray Rice left. 5-Cuse, Syracuse is a great school but someone has to do something with that football program, it is not looking good for them. Penn State is on top of my list because of the history and tradtion, and playing infront of thousands of people and playing for one of the winningest coaches ever in the colleigate level.
dont know
Has no idea of any key players on Iona Prep especially not Woodson he doesn’t even have a starting job and neither does Sidney. Teams dont surround around a bunch of recievers and running backs…and the receiving core starts with All-State wide receiver Chris Alfano not Jeffrey Mack and Michael Dunkely. Alfano is clearly the best wide receiver on the team. Teams surround around the line and without a line a team is nothing
stepinac
iona line very very good – the best in section 1
alfano is great receiver, and dunkley can do it all catch and run, he looks really good at camp, with now playing receiver alfano will have share the work at receiver.
youll seam to forget darlos 5 games last year and was on 60% when he came back, iona skill players are the best in the area, period
woodson wiil be starting, and sidney will play alot wether on defense or offense

Does anyone have a realistic report on the Iona Camp???
dont know
Will Woodson be starting or Gentile, who looks better
in camp, who ever wins the job there is alot of pressure
it seems like the coaches are giving Woodson every
opportunity to elevate is stock, Gentile might be the
better passer but woodsons the better athlete!
Hey RR…
Ryan Rossi plays for Rye, he’s not an Iona Prep QB.
Anyone know how the Iona camp is going though?
on vaca with the fam, just got inet access. anyone been goin to the camps around section 1, wat’s da newz?
Troilo turned in a truly awful coaching performance last year. 4 losses, half of his team not showing up not showing up for the last game… and outcoached completely in the Rye game.
dont know Woodson will not start if anything both players will split equal time during the season with Gentile starting hes the returner, hes the one who sat behind Oneil, hes the one who deserves to play…neither qb looked too impressive at Iona Camp Gentile throws a better ball and Woodson tends to throw more picks but Iona D-Line and Defense looked amazing especially the nose and Hilton was banging.
amond i meant Tyrae Woodson
politics will decide iona’s qb next year.
Who cAres- Your defitanly right about the NOSe guard and the lb for IOna. But rye did very well in the camp in my oponion.
hail mary is 100percent right
summary of iona team.
RYE: They have the offense to make it back to the dome. Ramhalo turned some of that fat into muscles and can run much better. He is also the leader of that team. Rye’s defense needs alot of work if they want to make it back to the dome. Another thing that might hurt rye is there lack of depth. Yesterday they had no second team that will hurt then down the line. Player to watch out for is… Connor eck. ( Dont know if thats his first name)
Iona: It is safe to say that Iona has the best skills positions around. Their Offense line is huge as usually. Tyrae is going to be the QB. His arm isn’t that good but this kid is FAST. He will be a good player maker for iona. Another player on O that will have a tremendous impact is Mack. He is a very good natural running. he likes to go east and west though. Once he gets going north and south he is as good as anybody. The defense Is going to be good with darlos leading them. They are athletic, fast and love to hit. Key player on defense is The nose guard. Against New Rochelle he was in the backfield every play.
New Rochelle: The offense needs alot of work. The o line looked decent at best. Every play Mcgee needed to get rid of the ball fast. New Ro is still waiting on a true running back to emerge. Out of everybody Mangault looked the best. Chris cherry also had some good runs. The Wide recivers are tall and fast. With Tremayne Williams leading them. Tremanye is there only real play maker at this point. The defense for New Ro is looking really really good. This team is looking like the 2006 team. They are better at this point than they were last year. The d isn’t as athletic as a whole but all the players on d can hit. With williams at safety teams better not run up the middle. A player to watch out for is Linebacker Chris strong.
When new rochelle went againt rye. Rye scored twice basically through the air. New Rochelle scored twice running the ball.
when Iona went against rye. They completely dominated.
When New Rochelle went against Iona. Iona couldn’t move the ball at all against new rochelle’s stingy defense. New Rochelle’s O was decent at best. The camp was highlight by some big hits by t. williams. New Rochelle scored twice . Iona scored once.
Ment to put iona Camp *
Sam 7 – WOuld you agree with me that Rye has alot of depth at the running back posotions? And Eck will be a player to watch. , and dont forget this camp doesnt really mean much.
sorry fan of the game. I wouldn’t agree with you. Rye has absolutely no depth at any position .
Sam 7
Your assessment of the Iona Camp was very accurate. Some further observations.
I think all three teams will have successful seasons unless unfortunate injuries occur.
The key for Rye will be how fast Eck adjusts as a sophomore-I believe the other QB Remy Pinson left Rye for Trinity Catholic for Basketball. The FB Ramalho is a very good workhorse and should be the most physical player in Class B. Although Rye struggled against Iona on Monday I do believe they will get to the class b title game probably against Chenango Forks. Just by competing against Iona and New Rochelle has prepared Rye for any team they will see in Class B.
New Rochelle has two lethal combinations- They have great talent and they have a college level coach. The only team that I see challenging them is North Rockland for section 1 supremacy. Maybe Carmel with their good QB can give them a game. New Rochelle has great speed on defense and will not give up more than 10 points per game. Their OL is still developing but will be good with Solomon. A New Rochelle – Monroe Woodbury game in the State playoffs will be a great match up.
Iona has some emerging young players that should get better as the year goes on. The speed on Iona should allow them to contend for the CHSFL AAA. Jeffrey Mck who had a good sophomore year should emerge as the main RB. Players like Alfano, Dunkley, James, and newcomer Sidney Weston could casue match up problems. I think Woodson will be the QB. If he keeps the mistakes to a mininum then he will be good. I am still unsure about the lines for Iona- The one big strength in the CHSFL AAA is the size and depth of all the lines. Teams like St. Anthony, Farrell, Chaminade, and St. Joseph will have lines that are maybe better than Iona.
All three coaches had to be happy about the way all three teams looked so early in the training process.
I agree with Sam 7 about Iona. Iona’s defense is the defense to watch starting with CB Darlos James, LB Morris Hilton, and NG Nicholas Biagioni leading the defensive line who seemed to be unblockable against both New Rochelle and Rye.
I dont agree with you about Tyrae Woodson, he seems to throw 10x as many interceptions as Gentile and the key to offense is to keep the ball. Gentile should end up starter he is the returning player.
and Iona Power- The last thing to worry about is the Iona Line . Last year people said the same thing and it seemed to be their strength. The Iona line is good enough there just isnt much Depth.
gentile is not the better passer, tyrae has more accuracy, wait until the games start, gentile sat while tyrae has played and started qb since the age of 7, he has game playing experiance, let us remember when mara played jv and the back up to Jimmy robertsonn sat behind Jimmy, Mara had game experience came and took the spot. and went on to a great junior year. at any case it should interesting at least.
tyrae has more big game experience, but who ever starts, it will be a good year.
Iona’s defense should be very good this year, they need jordan to come back and play fs/wr and they will be stacked, love the way Nicky,Morris, and the defense hit.
T. Williams is ok, must of missed the big hits.
beau disimone is the best player at iona prep
would it be safe to say that eck was the best looking QB at the camp? I’ve heard nothing but praises of this kid so far
Beau Dissimone messed up clark antico at the iona camp watch out for BEAU ! hes a beast.
First of all, i think this whole blog and every other one should just be changed to the Rye – Harrison blog. Are they the only 2 teams in section 1? I get tired of reading and rambling on how both schools are so great. If the players are such studs, why dont they just go to college and start, being that they are so great and just do away with the Rye -Harrison game, or better yet let all the bloggers play each other. On another note, im a coach in class “c”, where are league consist of Croton, Dobbs and Lincoln hall. We played all 3 teams last year. Beating both Croton and Lincoln hall. Of the three named players that people have mentioned, Sir Taylor was the best football player and athlete out of the three. He can throw and i mean throw, run and take a hit. Somebody mention that croton runs a wing t, i dont know what games you watched. They ran mostly a shot gun. Hes a big kid with not a strong arm, but a great runner. He would be more suited to be a full back, and as for a d-1 prspect, come on, he wouldnt even start on a big public school.
And as for braisford, hes a good runner with speed, but gets tackeld alot after the first hit and doesnt have the greatest hands for a back. Dont get me wrong hes a great back, but gets great exposure playing for a power house program. Out of the 5 games i saw of him, including ours, he took himself out of every game, bascially cause he runs straight up and takes hard hits and gets punished. If he learns to run with his shoulders square and low to the ground and with hes size, he would be unstopable and could be a d-2 good player. He still will have a great year, but yet another back we wouldnt even start at a big school. Hell he was the third back at a class c school.
Last saturday at the big nasty camp at Hofstra, One of the most overlooked prospects Caraun Reid the DL from Mt. St. Michael was unstoppable. He blew kids of their feet in the Oklahoma Drill and dominated on the pass rush against kids from LI. Coach Cohen was really impressed with what he saw because he offer him a scholarship that day. I heard that his film is spectacular, he is very quick for his size and he has racked five offers already from Army, University of Delaware, Marshall University, Hofstra, and HARVARD. It would be a grave injustice if he didnt make the Super 11 with that amount of talent
chsfl
My entry at the beginning noted that Caraun Reid from Mount was one of the best lineman in the area.
Between Reid and Gary Aquah Mount should have the best DL in the CHSFL. Hopefully Mount and Iona will see each other in the playoffs because it is a shame they are not playing in the regular season.
hold
It was hard to say who the best QB was from the Iona camp because the coaches are trying to incorporate new wrinkles in the offense. I think Eck is going to have a very good 3 years as the QB for Rye- He has great size, nice throwing fundamentals and looks to have a solid pocket presence. He will be a good one. The only drawback is whether Rye has enough big play speed receivers that would allow Eck to show his talent. Rye did not have Receivers that were on the same level as Williiams from New Rochelle or Darlos James and Chris Alfano from Iona.
The super 11 has not been chosen yet ! The list above is a list of kids who kevin thought might be in the super 11 come preseason in August. Send him copy of film !
coach in class C, i agree with brailsford wouldnt start at a big school, thats a reason that class C isnt talked about as much as the big schools like rye, harrison, new ro, and iona. The skill level is a big gap between the classes.
What ever happened to Jajaun Perez ?
hey fan of the game you are beau desimone, whats up beau
coach in class c,
i think when football fan something was talking about croton in the wing-t earlier in the blog, i think they were refering to the 06 season because i know until last year thats what croton has historically run.
also, to say that sir aaron can “throw and i mean throw” is sort of a foolish statement. last year he threw for a 313yds… he may have a strong arm but that doesnt mean anything if he cant connect with his wideouts. sirs a great ATH, but i think his skills lie more on the hardwood rather then the gridiron
Sam 7,
jujaun graduated this year and i heard hes going to play football for U of Maryland next year.
Is he walking on or what ? Last I heard they were going to offer him but then he got hurt.
TP, Your right about Sir Allen, I didnt mean to make a foolish statement. His stats dont compare to how strong is arm is. But he does need some help around him. We played a cover 4 when they went to the gun, and he would throw the the ball at least 60 yards, the problem was his was just throwing it up for grabs. But i still had to hold my breathe…lol. Still i think he would defenitly start for a big school. People forget he’s playing in a program that is only 2 years old and most of this kids have no fundamentals, just pure raw talent.
Coach In Class C
You are 100 percent wrong. Devonte has the body speed and power to start at almost any school in westchester somewhere. Ask any of the graduating seniors at Dobbs how good he is and how much better he will be. He was the third option because he was a sophmore, not anything based on talent. He does not get nailed, he punishes defenders. He got limited carries and still did awesome. He has solid hands he just doesnt run many patterns due to his position. He is going to be an amazing player this year and will hopefully be a high level college football player..Im not saying he is super 11 caliber, that is up to the Journal News, and this year he probably isnt but if your a class c coach and he isnt that good then do me a favor…and stop him.
the dtrain is comin
If you were to read all what i wrote, you will see that i said hes a good runner and will have a great year and will be a d-2 player. Don’t be so quick to defend.
does anyone know if the QB for rye Remy Pinson leave Rye?
class A fan
I was told by someone who is involved with Rye athletics that he transfered to Trinity Catholic for Basketball.
Ian Solomon has just committed to Marist.
Anynames on who will start at QB for Rye?
Ian Solomon did not commit to marist. He does not even hold an offer from them. Whoever did in fact post this must be very foolish to misannounce someone’s committment and must not have any respect for the recruiting process.
this is a question for kevin or anyone else who knows the answer. when will the super 11 be announced because i thought last year at this time, the 11 were already announced. thanks
FAN,
You’re incorrect. Super 11 is never announced before the preview section comes out in the newspaper, which isn’t until Sept.
Connor Eck a 6’2 Sophomore who has a gun will start for the Garnets in 08. He is the Brother of Class B MVP for the season, Jordan Eck.
ok…thanks kevin
Funny. I just found this post and only 1 player from Ossining is listed in contention for Super 11. Jesse Drinks will probably be the fastest kid in the section this year. He took second in states in the 100 meter and he took it with a time he beat many times during the season. Also, QB Justin Kreamer is a smart player, who can run for yards and definitely throw for more and his arm appears to be even stronger than last year. People overlook him because of his height, I wouldn’t. Just ask the coaches who played against him last year, I have. They give him a lot of respect.
JC or anyone, where is the rest of that Fordham Prep team from last year going in the fall? Lamacchia, Disimone, Seminario?
Has anyone else heard of this upcoming sophomore for Iona Prep. this kid is BIG and can run. I was talking with someone and they said hes about 5 11 225 pounds and holds almost every freshman weightlifting record. At the past greenwich scrimmage he seemed to be all over the field. I believe that hes an outside linebacker..boy can this kid play!
