Tuckahoe’s Johnson makes choice

Somebody asked this question a few moments ago and it occurred to me that I never wrote it when I found out. Tuckahoe basketball standout Robert Johnson has received a scholarship to play at Adelphi.
Adelphi is a Division II program in Garden City, N.J. Chris Diasparra of Mahopac and Michael McDuffie of Hamilton are on the roster and guided last year’s team to a 20-10 season and berth in the East Coast Conference championship.
The 6-foot guard really came into his own this season, leading Tuckahoe to its second sectional title in three seasons.
He averaged 21.3 points per game, highlighted by a 43-point effort against Eastchester in January, and came through with countless big shots in the playoffs as the Tigers turned second-half comebacks into an art form.
Johnson really earned my respect as a player in the postseason. During the regular season, I saw him only play once — versus Blind Brook, which turned out to be his worst game of the season. Blind Brook, as it always does, played exceptionally on defense as it geared everything towards stopping him. Johnson didn’t handle the end-to-end pressure well, forced shots and took his team out of the game.
A month later, he figured out a way to let his team win without doing all the scoring. He was consistently scoring 16-18 points in the playoffs, not forcing shots and consistently finding the open man. He decided to use the opposing team’s defensive scheme against them. I could really see that he matured over the course of the season.

Good for him, he’ll do well in that program.
His dad said he was going to Rutgers.
Where did you get that Rutgers info? Rutgers was ever even considered. He was originally going South.
Congrats to Robert. Best of luck at Adelphi.
