Section 1 Recruiting Combine
-
- June
- 6
The 2nd annual Section 1 Recruiting Combine is scheduled for tomorrow at New Rochelle High School.
Registration is from 8 to 8:45 a.m. with the combine portion of the day (administered by BX Player Development Group) starting at 9. There are six stations: Laser timed 40-yard dash, vertical leap, pro agility, three-cone L drill, 185-pound bench press, and the the kneeling powerball toss (which is new this year). The 40 will be run on the track, so participants should bring track shoes for that and cleats for everything else.
Anyone who’ll be taking the SATs tomorrow morning can still participate. There will be a second session of combine testing from 12 to 12:30, but it’s limited to only 60 spots.
Following lunch, there will be three 20-minute sessions of recruiting seminars. A college coach will give instruction on what scouts are looking for from a high school prospect, and the best way to get noticed. There will be an NCAA Clearinghouse seminar on what it takes to become eligible to receive a scholarship. And Electronic Arts (EA) will give a presentation on becoming a Computer Science major in college and a video game programmer (I might sign up for this myself).
In the afternoon, players will be broken down by position and be instructed by college coaches and former/current athletes. Afterwards, there will be an awards ceremony based on combine results and coaches evaluations.
If you were there last year, you’ll know this really was a good event. It’s organized and the hands-on instruction from college coaches is invaluable. These coaches are there for two reasons: to teach and to find players. Do well and they’ll remember you when it comes to get recruited.
The coaches that will be in attendance include: Pace, Utica College, Salve Regina, Southern Connecticut State, SUNY Maritime, St. Anselm, Union, Ithaca, Trinity, Cortland and C.W. Post. I know, you don’t see Michigan or Florida State. But trust me, there are a plenty of football players in the area who think they can play at the schools listed above… and they can’t. So save your comments.
For more information, visit the Section 1 Recruiting website. Hopefully I’ll see you all there.

Most SAT takers will not be done by 12:00.
Kev, I was wondering if you had any clue about the class of 2008 and any of their football college choices.
I know there are a lot of players who are capable and probably going to be playing in the next level and I was just wondering if there was any news on where.
that's your fault for being a dumbass and scheduling your sat on this date. I took mine last month so i'd be ready for this. this combine is so important so i can get numbers for the colleges. plus, i wanna see how i rate, numbers wise.
Is Rob Eggerling from St. Anslem going to be there?
Hey Kev, there is a lot of schools out there i been visiting this year in my son's jr year of H.S.,and it's amazing the differences between d1's and d3's my kid at 6' 235 lbs is being told by d3's schools they can see him at TE ,when visiting d1 Buffaloe TE are not looked at unless you're 6'5 or bigger,,so what I am trying to say is that, I noticed that most of the schools attending the Sec 1 combine are D3 schools and chances are very high that if you're serious varsity player you'll go at least D3 ! Where does he Stack up!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gN7q5IKbnU4

jjjj,
Coach Ted Florio will be representing St. Anselm, and will also be one of the coaches giving the presentation about what colleges are looking for from the high school football player.
Kev getting a little feisty with the college comment. The jump from high school to college , even at D3 is big. However, there is a place to play for anyone who wants to hit the weights, run and sometimes wait 3 years.Cortland, Brockport,Ithaca …..are filled with kids from AA schools that were considered elite players and they cant sniff the field( many eventually quit, join a frat). You also get the non-preferred walk-on who busts his tail his first year, gets invited to camp his second year and by his jr. or senior year, theyre getting burn.
As for the combine,Its gonna be hot out there fellas, as my coach at Worcester Academy woulld say "Dont get into a drinking contest with the local yocals( fri night) ".I hope everyone stays hydrated, tests well and elevates the area.
Any idea when the ESG basketball roster will be finalized?
Glad to see the 40 is being run on the track, the 40 times were remarkably slow last year. i think the very fastest was 4.7 Who are some of the fastest kids in section 1 this year??
affa, some of the notable speedsters will be matt deaina, claudio delli carpini, jeremy burnett, james brundage, and tremayne williams.
affa, the fastest time was a 4.6 laser . So hand timed that is a 4.4. My man pierre elizer ran that.
Jeremy Burnett and Claudio Delli carpini will both not be at the combine beacuse of SATs along with many other harrison kids that could have a chance to play at the next level.
like i said before that makes them moron's. they should have planned for this and taken the sat's on a different date.
im pretty sure elizer ran a 4.80, which means he runs a 4.6
Thats too bad for the harrison kids. there is gonna be some good talent on that team next year and i would at least like to see 1 or 2 harrison kids at the combine. i klnow rob jones was at it last year. there 6'0 265 pd. tackle. how about protano there other 6'1 270 pd. tackle. or they have some big kids comin up from JV. i'd like to see them.
It's been mentioned a couple of times that they are holding a second round of testing later in the day so that those taking the SATs will have a chance to get tested.
2027, maybe you should go recheck. He ran a 4.6 lasered and right behind him jason holt ran like a 4.62 or something.
2027, the last time i ran a 4.8 was at the end of my freshman year and I'm pretty sure I've gotten a lot faster since then. Although I'm not a fan of running a 40 on turf it felt pretty accurate. I'm also not a fan of people overlooking my hard work… if you don't mind me asking whats your 40 time?
typo on the name**
i run a 4.32, not really, i run about a 4.8
So what is that laser timed a 5 ?
No its not, all i did was check the list and it said elizer pierre 4.80. so stop arguing.
2027, lol wowzers there's no hope… but hey thanks for being a fan. Good luck to everyone participating in the combine. Represent section 1 to the fullest!!
Michigan and Florida State wouldn't be allowed at any combine. A1A Coaches are no longer allowed to attend any combines.
D1A*
I'd like to thank everyone who volunteered their time today to work the combine, the coaches who came to coach, and the players who braved the heat and everyone elso who contributed to another amazing day of football in Section 1! The players that came showed they are some of the best that Section 1 has to offer, and I know the college coaches were impressed with the talent on the field. Many contacts for possible future recruitement were made today, and overall I think it was a huge success for all involved. The 40 times were much faster than last year, because we were able to run on the track vs. field turf, and there were some outstanding performances recorded today. The Coaching portion was a huge success, with most positions getting a 5 or 6 to 1 player to coach ratio. Some positions only had 3 or 4 guys, and they received incredible "face-time" with college coaches! The results will be posted within the week, and the mailing will go out to the collegs by early next week. For the guys that were there, make sure you call the top 5 or 6 colleges on your list and have them check out your results! Thanks again to everyone who was there, and today was another great day for Section 1 Football!
Keith:
Thanks for holding the combine. My son & nephew did it and they had a great time.

Here's an idea..
Lets put together a combine, charge admission, tell players a couple of days before the list of schools attending(pretty much all D3), and hold it on a day when SAT's are scheduled…
Guys listen.. have a good high school football season, stay in the weight room, get your school work done and you can play football at the above listed schools. You dont need to pay "any" money to a recruiting servivce for these schools or to be timed in the 40 yd dash.
The reason 1AA schools wont attend these "combines" is they are all bs, and the people who run them make money off the names of the schools and universities by saying that they will "be in attendance".
Smart guy,
D1-AA schools aren't allowed to attend combines. How about you get one ounce of a clue first and then talk trash about Fagan & company.
TheScam, if you feel that strongly than dont send your child. If youre in high school, dont go.I think back almost 20 years to when I was in school and I would have loved to be timed/tested against the likes of Jim Okeefe from Somers, Echi/Effort/Dimmie from Hollow, Blackwell from Dobbs, Walton from HArvey , Otis Hill….If you have the money, its a sound investment. If not, have a great junior/senior year and stay on your coaches to network
SoMF
Why do you think they arent allowed?
Rileygirl,
I didnt send him nor would I go. All great players you mention, in my day thats what I looked foward to, playing/meeting them on the field on Saturday afternoon.
The 40 yd dash and the bench press dont always add up to the better football player. Things like technique and toughness cant be measured with a stopwatch.
But hey, its your money. A wise man once said, "A fool and his money are soon parted."
RileyGirl,
"The Scam" is a disgruntled, sorry, sick, twisted man, who has this insane vendetta against me, because I told him his son shouldn't transfer to Don Bosco because he wasn't that good 6 years ago now!!!!!! Now he hates on me, and all the kids who are trying to get better. Please, pay him no mind. He posts under several different names, and he keeps singing the same old tired song. I'm just in it "for the money". Ask anyone who was there on Saturday if I was just in it "for the money."
SoMF/Keith Fagan(one in the same)
I dont have a son that went to Bosco and I'm not hating on kids. You dont give yourself enough credit for the amount of Sports people that consider you to be a self promoting clown. The facts are the facts:
1)I have/would never hate on athlete trying to improve and aspire to play sports at the highest level. Quite the contrary. I have said nothing less than play hard, study, and seek the guidance of your HS Football coach.
2)It is in fact you that hate on kids that dont subscribe to your ridiculous farse. You have done so under many names on this very site. Your tone of communication is always obvious.
3)Anyone who takes you to task is accused by you of being either, sick, twisted, a moron, sorry, lacking manhood etc. All terms that your I'm quite certain that your an authority on.
I will continue to shed light on anyone that disguises themself as an authority with the sole purpose of putting their hand in someone's back pocket. In this case Keith Fagan.
The Scam,
There is an old tale the goes like this:
IT IS WHAT IT IS!
Fagan is trying to promote section one football, I think it's great, however he promised on his web-site that those kids that took the SAT's saturday if they got there by noon
would be given an opportunity to complete the combine and were not given the chance. I was there and some parents
weren't to happy. A refund might be a good solution he knows who they are! Fagan keep the dream alive!
Perry,
Sounds like the m.o. of Fagan, he tends to make promises(alot of them) that he can't or has no intention of keeping. Making promises to young individuals persuing a dream is the part that leaves a bad taste in my gut. Especially when the core of the promise has money wrapped around it. The parents shouldnt be happy and should demand the refund(good luck). Make no mistake about one thing, the only thing Fagan is interested in promoting is Fagan.
Section 1 Football is fine, the players who have talent, size, academics and what it takes get their due(without Fagan). Trying to convince kids that are missing key components to being top College Football players by saying you wont be noticed unless you "pay and sign up" is not a good thing.
This is the same guy who claimed on this site a month ago that Ohio State only recruits the Ohio Valley for budgetary constraints. Are you kidding me?(rather than the fact that it is a HS Football Hot Bed) Thats like saying Rutgers looks at Bergen County Football because its close by and they save money on gas. The fact of the matter is that Greg Schiano is the highest paid state employee in NJ so its safe to say that major College(Top 25) Football programs arent limited by $$$ in their recruiting efforts.
If he promised…Make him pay the refunds or calll the local better business burea.
"The Scam, or whatever you are calling yourself these days, I feel sorry for you, I truly do. I have never, and will never post under anything other than my own name. I, unlike you, have nothing to hide, and stand by whatever I say. I'm not willing to cower and hide behind a screen taking cowardly shots at people under a screen name like you do.
Perry,
There were two young men who arrived after taking the SAT who were not tested in the Combine. They did not tell me they were there until 1:00 pm (they were supposed to tell me they were there by 12:00, like another player who was tested), when BX Player Development already packed up and went home. There was nothing I could do at the time. However, because I did say that they would be tested, I have arranged for BX to test those two players seperately, so that they will have official times to send the colleges. Please don't be like this idiot who has nothing nice to say simply because he is a bitter twisted individual. If you felt things weren't done right, simply email me and I'll explain the situation. There's no need to fall into the trap of this one disturbed individual.
Keith,
I just thought you might have liked this information and
what was being said? My son was a participant and had a blast! Any video presentation and interviews going to be on the web-site from the combine? Is Malone still part of your team?
I was at the combine with my son and his buddy and my nephew. They had a blast. The day was very hot, but the coaches and volunteer staff put the kids thru their paces.
Every kid got many looks at all postions.
They gave the kids a lunch and back out on the field.
It was a great football day.
My son is a junior going into his last year, it is wake up call to him and his team mates about section one football.
I would highly recommend this combine to any true football player. It always good to see how you stack up. My kid goes to a very small school so everyone makes the team.
Keith you were working your ass off out in the heat.
Thanks again and I'm looking foward to the magazine.
It was great reading about all the kids playing high school football in Section One last year.
Thanks for all that you do for high school football.
Otis Hill was the best player in Section 1 history.
My Son Attended the Blue Grey combine and The Section 1 Combine,Blue Grey wasn't even close to the section1 combine ,they only had 3 different event 40,broad jump, and bench, and they were realy trying to push there video highlight services Along with a web page!plus it was more expensive! And they don't even send stats to schools! All that I know is that I finaly got through to pace @ the section 1 , Thank you Mr Fagan for a great day
Thanks for a great combine expierience. My son had also done the Schuman Combine but after attending yours he said it was more organized and was a better experience. He said the coaches were working with everyone and not just certain athletes. And thanks for making accommodations for my son to leave in the middle of the day to compete in the Javelin at the eastern states at Iona. We made it back for the afternoon sessions on the turf and even with the heat my son had a great day. Don't listen to anyone who says you aren't doing a great job, or this is a scam, they obviously don't know what they are talking about.
Keith:
Why would you actually pay attention to negativity(if it isnt valid) and resort to name calling? The better solution is to IGNORE it! You don't need to respond when the proof is in the pudding. The bottom line is you had a successful combine and made kids/parent happy.
HRs,
You definately have a point. I guess I just get nervous that people might actually believe the garbage that the guy is spewing, and I feel like I have to refute what he says. I know the proof is in the pudding, but we should have had 250 kids there on Saturday, it's a shame more don't see the value! Thanks to everyone for the kind words, and for all you underclassmen, don't miss out on next years' event!
The responses have been overwhelmingly positive. Don't let people that like bother you. The fact of the matter is you are creating an environemnt for kids to compete, test their skills and learn a little about the recuriting process. That in itself is worth the money. Your hard work will eventually pay off. I have never been to your camp, but I have heard of it and from reading this blog it seems like a good thing.
Back in the day when I was in HS, I had a father who was a coach(not in the sport I played) but he was a coach and was familiar with what it takes to get a scholarship. This was so cricital as my coaches along the way were clueless and there was limited exposure in ther area. Your services give parents/kids who areent as lucky as I was to learn about what it takes. To me this is extremely important.
To be honest D 2 and D3 are where the majority of the kids are going to go. Having these coaches there makes sense! So the guy whining about that is is foolish.
de, the best player in section 1 history was probably not otis hill. Not looking at what happened to him in college, harrisons Sammy maldanado is the most dominant player to ever play in section 1.
lets get back to the the real story ….the players, and how THEY worked out so hard in the 90+ heat and how THEY preformed. i'm sure they would like to read some positive text about good day of football . because it should be about the kids
Perry,
Unfortunately no, John Malone is no longer a part of Section1Recruiting, Inc. He took a job as a security guard at Roosevelt Island, and his new hours prohibit him from attending games, etc. I am looking for help in continuing that part of the website however. As a coach, I feel it is a conflict of interest for me to have any part of ranking teams, players, etc, and I have never had anything to do with that aspect. Unless I can find people to continue what John started, that part of the website won't continue. If there are people out there who like to be a part of the website, and write about teams, players, etc, we are "hiring", so please email me.
whenn will the results be on section1.com
Keith: Will their be a magazine this year ?
I really enjoyed last year issue.
are freshman who are playing on jv allowed to attend
