Getting closer (part 2)

12:29 p.m. – Back to back layups by backup Tyrone Mitchell have put Mount Vernon ahead 35-22 with 2:45 left in the second.
This has really been a fast-paced game and pretty loosely called. In fact, the phrase “they’re letting them play” would be really understating things. Both teams certainly don’t seem to mind playing this physical style.
12:25 p.m. – Andre Gaynor just scored thanks to an amazing play by Tyrone Mitchell, who somehow, while he was on the ground, stole the ball from a Poughkeepsie player and passed it to his teammate. Mount Vernon leads 31-15 with 4:34 left in the second.
Early on, Kevin remarked that this game might go to overtime. Somehow, I doubt it. Guess he’s still in yesterday’s mode when an incredible 3 of 4 games went past regulation. Of course, I missed it. I seem to bring out a blowout no matter what two teams play. That shouldn’t be the case though on Championship Sunday.
12:22 p.m. - Perfect timing! The blog isn’t working! Unfortunately, it erased my last two entries as well. Hopefully, that’s the last snag we’ll experience, but I highly doubt it.
To get you caught up, it’s now 29-13 Mount Vernon with 5:30 left in the second quarter.
12:06 p.m. – So far it’s the Sherrod Wright show. The junior has 10 points and two 3-pointers. He’s also added a thunderous two-handed jam. Mount Vernon leads 12-7 with 4:21 left in the first quarter.
12:03 p.m. – Sherrod Wright just got blocked on a breakaway and a Mount Vernon fan behind me yelled out, “Is that whistle broken?” Pretty comical.
12 p.m. – We’re off. Amazingly, there are still some seats available. Okay, so that might change any minute.
Kevin beat me to the punch with a scene setter, but I’ve decided to chime in as well since I’ll be blogging here all day. I think he’s trying to make me look bad. Then again, he’s a compulsive blogger…
The crowd is starting to build, but I thought it would be even more packed by now. This is Championship Sunday! Where is everyone!
I got here extra early to ensure a spot in the back lot. Everyone loves free parking so I’m sure that’s filled up by now.
Poughkeepsie has just taken the court and is going through its layup lines. Mount Vernon should get a larger ovation when they come out of the locker room.
And speaking of that, here come the Knights. The entire team rotated through catching the ball and flipping it off the backboard. Sherrod Wright was supposed to finish it off by laying it in, but he mishandled the ball and missed. Is that a bad omen? We’ll see.
Okay, we’re about 15 minutes away. Back in a few!
