Lakeland transfer Ralph Watts scored a game-high 24 points as Peekskill defeated host Port Chester 74-56 in boys basketball today.Peekskil (2-0) led 49-48 entering the fourth quarter before holding the Rams to one field goal in the first four minutes of the period and opening up a 10-point lead.
Mookie Jones and Dequann Brickhouse each had 15 points in the win.
Steven Cordero scored a team-high 21 points for Port Chester (1-3). Jordan Henriquez added 10 points and 13 rebounds.
Great game and a fun environment. The place was jammed, standing-room only by the second quarter, and littered with Division I coaches. Personally, I saw Barry Rohrssen of Manhattan, Pat O’Driscoll from Marist, Chuck Martin of Memphis, and Chris Casey from St. John’s.
Memphis was there specifically to see Henriquez. I stood next to coach Martin and he was clearly smiling when Henriquez caught two rebounds and threw home thunderous dunks. You can’t teach 6-foot-11.
By the way, this game can heard on the internet at ESPN Radio. Once I get the link I’ll post it.

port chester ain’t white plains!
The memphis coach couldn’t have been impressed. For 6’11 that kid had a horrible game. He was the 7th best player on the court tonight. Weak on the boards and no hands at all.
You probably are right. Henriquez isn’t that good right now but he is 6’11 and a lot of people will take a chance on him. Especially Memphis who’s player’s need NO grades. Joey Dorsey is a behavioral mess and is 25 as a senior ability . HEnriquez will go some where
I didn’t know the Ralph Watts changed his name to Lakeland transfer Ralph Watts…. Are you going to call him that all year??? how did the refs treat him tonight??
How is Brian Jones Super 7? He isn’t very good. Not so athletic and in bad shape physically. We destroyed him and his team tonight. I’ve seen a lot of high school ball and there are a lot more deserving players of his spot. Rockland needed NO representation this year.
panas light,
i agree. hes a good player but not one of the best around. hes averaging somewhere around 15 per game for a 1-5 team in class a and hes considered one of the top 7 players around? i dont really like being a hater but i guess thats what im doing considering i can think of at least 10 other players who are posting better numbers on better teams this year. sorry to be a pain kev, i just thought i had to say how i feel.
He’s Lakeland transfer Ralph Watts for a while. It’s only game 2. It’s a fact and it’s still newsworthy and not known by everyone who might be picking up the newspaper.
Watts’ 24 points were a career high I believe.
watts didnt have have an awful time with the refs, but he was the second best player on teh court tonight, and on this very night, probably the best palyer…mookie played posessed, him and watts are a tough combo…tougher than kjones and sharrod wright?
No way, Ralph and Mookie are awesome but Sherrod would be right up there with Kev and Mookie if he hadnt had Coburn on his team last yr and was the 3rd option. Sherrod is awesome and I still dont feel he gets the respect he deserves and Ralph is also underated. My fav tandems are, Sherrod and Kevin, Mookie and Watts and Rashad James, and Killpatrick, any others im missing out?
take it easy on brian jones. He is a very good player on a very young team. He is playing out of position and carries a lot of responsibility.
if he had mookie, watts, or a kevin jones by his side, he would average 25 and 10
no one is questioning that brian jones is a good player, its just whether or not hes a super 7 player. its high praise to be named a top 7 player in westchester/rockland county and i dont think that he is super 7 good.
Not totally a basketball question but is Nyack looking at 2 down years in a row.. Seems that way. Also the football program has not been its usual self the last 3 years. Whats happenning in Nyack once a district of many excellent sports programs? I’ve been reading about your turf field battles in the paper. Good luck with that!
I am not here to bash anyone, but Brian Jones is a good basketball player on a Nyack team that is not going to be that good this year. He is not a bad player, but he is far from being a Super 7 player. You talk to almost anyone involved in Rockland County basketball and they cant understand how he is a Super 7 player or how Kevin calls him the best player in Rockland County. He is far from the best player in Rockland County and most people have never seen him even completly dominate a game. The bottom line is that Kevin lives in Westchester County and really doesnt follow Rockland County basketball that much.
The bottom line is Kevin’s “Next Five” are way off and the season will prove it out!
Jamal Little and Kevin Drew? Come on
being an impartial high school basketball fan I have to support Kevin on Jamal Little. I saw this kid play last year and was overly impressed with his athletic ability. Without question he has teh ability to be a big time Div I player. Big word was ability. As he is now, def one of the best in the section and may be the most exciting with James form White Plains.
Its obvious that there was a Heavy Westchester Hawks(the stench of Rob Rizzo) influence in rounding out the field. The season will tell the real story !
Just for the record: The Super 7 and Next Five are decided on by a team of Journal News reporters, not just myself. And that’s the only people who have input.
Brian Jones is definitely in the argument for one of the areas best ballers. All this bad talk about a bad season, but he has led nyack which was one of the worst teams around, to the playoffs.
